Tracy hasn’t the jurisdiction to even use the “tax” word. But if he must, he needs to ask the IRS to look at BO and Gertie’s next year. That is, unless they are too busy with Cabinet appointees.
The continuing absence of finger nails and the gingerly finger tip manner of holding ‘phones suggest advanced Osteoporosis or just like Noll, (as another poster speculated), “magnetic fingers” (?)
The more I see of this tale the more convinced I am that the “idea” bucket in Naperville is diddlysquat empty. Casino backdrop again, similar “playing card” names and costumes over and over, and TWO characters named “One-eyed Jack” per story.
But “copying” from the past is not new for Dicky … his son John’s design of the Sunny Deli Acres home is evidence of that.
In the Queenie story, the Casino Owners were Mr.Emerald and Mr. Facet. Are Big Ace and One-Eye ripping off the Casino Owners by letting the B.O.’s of this world win big, then knocking them off?
This comes like the “perfume” and the “gas formula”. Everything is “fuzzy”. Nothing is quite clear. Like Alice we have joined Dicky in “Womderlamd” only to find that there is only ‘indecision’ spinning in his head.
In a way he reminds me of 1940’s Mary X (aka Leota Sunny) who kept “forgetting” things, but one
thing is clear, Dick “Mother-Hubbard” Locher’s “creative” cupboard is bare. Bereft, having to recycle the “same” IDEAS (with slight variations) AND, within TWO years. YES! Gould brought back Flattop (his ‘look-alike’ son) but that was all of 15 years later.
BO was as content as he’d been in ages. His lovely wife next to him, lots of money rolling in and left over food stuck in his beard to eat.
“Ah, doesn’t get better then this”, he satisfyingly thought.
“Mr. Eyejack said my winnings would be delivered tomorrow. What a swell guy”.
Gertie was less then impressed with Eyejack.
“He doesn’t dress suave like my BO does” she dryly said to herself.
“Dresses funny”.
Eyejack was so sure everything was going right on schedule that he considered putting on the King’s outfit he kept for special occasions.
“Yeah! Tell big Ace everything’s going as planned”.
Meanwhile, back at police headquarters Dick was getting inspiration in the place he did his best thinking. He was glad they assigned Lt. Teevo to hold his phone while he relieved himself.
“Only got two hands, you know” he chuckled between humming his favorite tune, the theme from Hawaii Five-0.
“There’s more spinning at Jacks casino then slot wheels”.
Tracy paused until Teevo laughed at his joke.
“This stupid Magpie will laugh at anything I say”, Dick thought to himself.
“His tax records will tell me” Tracy said out loud right before telling Teevo to call the Tax Department.
Dick suddenly felt the need to do a little shake and dance.
My bet is we won’t hear one bleeep thing more about tax records in the daily strips after today !
Locher can’t seem to resist it, he just loves to “turn” into those those “dead end”, go nowhere lanes that take readers to no place of consequence. And then he smiles in the mirror thinking he has a firm grip on everything that matters!
The man needs to grip on somethimg more “meaningful” (given the ‘hint’) from the “size” of his hands, than he would perhaps like us to believe!
