Sigh, I miss the days of the long Dick Tracy stories that would go on for months and months and kept you in suspense from day to day, yeah, the artwork is great these days, but the stories are short and the characterizations sketchy, Gould’s old villains were fleshed out, you knew everything about them, including what motivated them, and the stories twisted and turned in exciting ways…I used to cut out the strips in the 60s and paste them into notebooks so I could go back over them and study the details, Gould was a master at giving us so much insight into his characters, as were many of the other cartoonists like Leonard Starr and Harold Gray. Double sigh, maybe it’s because everyone’s attention span is short now and people don’t have the patience to savor a good long storyline.
