Anybody here NOT ready for some more Moon Maid, raise your hand. That’s what I thought. Gotta say the Jumbler story was pretty good. Not spectacular, but not bad either. Going to put in a plug for the movie “42” also. I found it worth the price of admission, or a thumbs up if that’s your rating style. I’d like to see Lifetime or A&E or someone do a biography flick of our recent friend George Takei.
The Moon Maid story is starting soon, but not immediately. I don’t want to post spoilers, but if anyone is interested in more specific info about when Moon Maid’s story will begin (this according to Mike Curtis), shoot me an email. My email address is in the Bio section on my profile page, which you can access by clicking on my avatar.
Sooooo….. Crypto IS that loyal….. I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt….. yeahhhh, he’s gonna need some rehab time in the kennel and obedience school BEFORE he can do some community reform work…. like a couple of commenters suggested on Saturday’s strip, his time may be a little longer…. Boy, his judge better not be named Katz! Heh heh….
Sigh, I miss the days of the long Dick Tracy stories that would go on for months and months and kept you in suspense from day to day, yeah, the artwork is great these days, but the stories are short and the characterizations sketchy, Gould’s old villains were fleshed out, you knew everything about them, including what motivated them, and the stories twisted and turned in exciting ways…I used to cut out the strips in the 60s and paste them into notebooks so I could go back over them and study the details, Gould was a master at giving us so much insight into his characters, as were many of the other cartoonists like Leonard Starr and Harold Gray. Double sigh, maybe it’s because everyone’s attention span is short now and people don’t have the patience to savor a good long storyline.
keninohio, jumbler was no threat of physical violence at all, tracy knew it and jumbler knew he was caught. resisting an arrest would be STUPID, and jumbler is anything BUT that!
Jumbler story “pretty good…(but) not spectacular”? I’ve had difficulty with this story all along. Not that Jumbler was a “bad” villain, per se, only that he was appearing in the wrong comic. More than one of us has mentioned that he seemed right out of 1960s Batman, preferably the TV show. Dick Tracy took some lumps, too: If Jumbler hadn’t been telegraphing his moves by altering the daily Jumble puzzles, by now, we’d have had three apparently disjoint crimes, no idea that they were committed by the same person, let alone who that person was. With the exception of the remodeled drug store, at no point was there any sense of imminent danger – to Tracy or anyone else. Bottom line: To me, Jumbler was a bore. As for the dog, I don’t understand why everyone was in love with him. As a cyclist, I have learned that all dogs have claws and teeth – no matter how cute they may appear. There’s just too many teeth marks in my legs from dogs who thought I was easier to catch than a car. Apparently, I was (easier to catch than a car). (And yes, I saw the dig that Pastis did on cyclers yesterday – pretty good, too!) Back to Dick Tracy: Something tells me that the Jumbler story was ordered by Tribune Media as a dual promotion of both DT and Jumble comic strips. Last, and certainly least: The Dick Tracy jokes in last week’s Jumble comics were fantastic and – unlike the Jumbler – were very enjoyable (even if I’m not usually able to solve a Jumble puzzle)…
OK, I know voicing unhappiness regarding a particular story can get a person in a heap of trouble but seriously am I the only one who thinks the Jumbler story just came to such a boring, whimper of an ending? (If there’s a sudden surprise like Crypto releasing tear gas, that would change my opinion). With so many holes in the story, (Jumbler digging a tunnel by himself, why did Jumble leave the clues, Why was he mocking Tracy directly, why no plan B, etc…) I’d like to use an analogy to say that this was not a hit song but rather an album filler. Oh well, that’s life!S.I.T.O.A.N.M.I.
Don’t know if Mike and Joe are taking requests, but here’s mine: Moon Maid, when she appears, is not an imposter. For those worried about Junior’s marriage to Sparkle, (one) she just got a job with Montana Joe, and (two) if she feels threatened by (the return of) Moon Maid, then this isn’t a very good marriage in the first place. Honeymoon deserves her mother back.
A whole page, those were the good old days, Used to love the comics section of the old Star Weekly in Canada, started off with Lil Abner on the front, and ended with Blondie on the last page as I recall.

Question: Does talking on a wrist wizard while steering consist of Distracted Driving?
Question: How is it Tracy happened to have a harness for Crypto so the doggie could ride in a passenger seatbelt in the front seat?
Question: Will we learn where Dick got bitten?
