Nice kick by Lizz! I’m sure she could have easily dealt with the second attacker if Jerry King hadn’t seen what was happening while he exited the bistro with his coffee.
Jerry King is this strip’s equivalent to retired professional wrestler and current wrestling commentator Jerry Lawler, nicknamed “The King.” Lawler is a friend of writer Mike Curtis and this is the fourth time he has appeared in the strip.
In the 2012 story where Patty Cure had organized a charity wrestling match to help the Mole’s homeless families, King was one of the announcers at the match. When Mole confronted Thunderchild inside the ring about his theft of the charity money, a physical confrontation broke out between the two and King left his ringside announcer’s desk to intervene.
In a 2016 story, King was the best man at the Mole’s wedding.
In a 2019 story about sportswriter and serial killer Barnabas Tar, Barnabas was shown finishing up the writing of an interview he had done with King.
