Mark: ... and now... some more mellow sounds for your natural lifestyle... that is to say, soft-rock for white college graduates in their late twenties! We're back! And my guest tonight is New York City detective Ed mcAndrew, a member of the crack team of investigators who broke the Son of Sam case! Mr. McAndrew, I'd like to start off by asking you about the local newspaper coverage of the .44 caliber murders. Were all the screaming headlines a help or hindrance in your work? Well, a little of both, Mark. While it certainly made the public more vigilant, we knew that one reason a guy like Sam kills in teh first place is to draw attention to himself! And the "News" and "Post" more than obliged him! I remember we had a similar case back in the late '50s. A crazed Korean War vet started spending his evenings popping anyone wearing a uniform! As the media coverage of his perpetrations grew, so did his activities. Soon he was scheduling his attacks for the late afternoon in order to make the early editions of the morning papers! Mark: Was that his undoing? Man: Sort of. We finally nailed him through his clipping service.
