Kissinger: Ms. Huan, perhaps you would share with us your own understanding of why Peking has chosen to reach an understanding with the U.S? Honey: Certainly, sir. China stands on the threshold of a new era of modernization. Co-operation with the U.S. is an imperative if we are to acquire the technology we need. Obviously, the impending SALT Accords with the Soviets also served to accelerate the process. All our insticts told us it was time to play the U.S. card! Kissinger: The U.S. card? Honey: Yes, sir. Even when the deck is stacked, playing our cards right has always been our long suit!
Mixed metaphors, anybody?
