is it fact that a chaplain can read a personnel file without service members prior consent? or is it just the case in cartoon land?

^Can’t speak for the military, but staff chaplains do have that right/responsibility in other setttings.

I love GBT’s attention to detail. Combat patches and everything! Well, a few strips ago, I swear that one of the women had shoulder rank on, which looked like Air Force chevrons. Oops….

I was admin “Here’s a couple of bucks. Go get yourself a coffee Corporal.” Be back in a half an hour.”

GT does to a good job in attention to detail. He tries to do a good job being accurate to fact as well; however he is not in the military and therefore doesn’t know what he doesn’t know.

I double checked with a couple of people who are paid to know. If a soldier is sexually assaulted, that information will not be in their personnel records. In fact it had better not or someone could find themselves on the wrong end of criminal charges!

Stop making me cry, Rick-o! I’m gonna miss NOW & Moyers very badly; especially since PBS doesn’t appear to be replacing them with anything comparable.

At least on the plus side, I don’t have to try staying conscious Friday nights past Gwennie Awful and her wimpy Wash Week poseur pundit posse.

As a veteran, and a chaplain currently with the American Legion, I see far too much of these types of things. They need to stop and no one, regardless of rank or position, should be above the law.

i applaud him covering this issue. i’ve loved this strip since it began and he never ceases to amaze me.

^djinn & Dev: May be, may not be going to happen; but Mel’s freaking at the mere prospect, and the flashbacks could cause her as much harm, when she needs to be sharp “downrange”. There needs to be a good way to get the right authority the word, and get it stopped.

Take a group of young healthy people of both genders with working genitalia, mix with a stressful dangerous environment and uncertainty about the trustworthiness of the locals (so the historic ‘camp-followers’ of Gen. Hooker are not available to them - of either gender).

Of course they are going to be looking to each other, and the limited opportunities tend to make it a zero-sum game, with heavy competition and pressure for coercion.

Practical solutions? Anybody?

The obvious solution is to not go to war anymore. However, reality dictates that our so called civilization is not yet ready for peace.

Why do people say Trudeau is so courageous for the subject matter he covers? He talks incessantly about Mark and Chase, but beyond Zonk, never addresses marijuana equality, He barely even acknowledges bi-polar politics other than Uncle Stupid Head, and after more than a year, still no avatar. Some issues are still too taboo. Some call it courage, other say Wishy Washy.

My suggestion to pbamrob is to add a 69 Tango MOS, “Combat Chaperones”, elite MPs.

Anyway, in my 20 years of service in the Navy (and I have no doubt that the other branches are any different), coffee is around no matter whether the talk is serious or not. For senior NCOs (which the chaplain isn’t, of course), it’s practically a uniform item.

bradwilliams, thanks or actually double-checking. I didn’t think it would be in a personnel file, but I’ve been out of the military too long to be 100% certain of much of anything.

I also think GT does his best, and all things considered, his best is pretty good.

BTW, is anybody else annoyed by the chaplain’s glasses, and don’t they look like they keep changing size?

In the strips on the 16th-17th, the crucifix is large, garish, white and weaponized. Today it’s diminutive and yellow. What’s Trudeau trying to say?
