Not sure what a shepard is … I’ve heard of a shepherd. What is JHVH?
C and O 2666 about 10 years ago
‘JHVH’ = Jehovah, one of the names for God (King James and other older English translations of scripture), more commonly known now as ‘YHWH’ for Yahweh.
Perhaps there is some confusion with the other transliterations of the name ‘Jesus’ from Hebrew = ‘Joshua/Yeshua’ (‘Jesus’ being the Greek form).

You write the name as G-d because if the piece of paper it was written on fell on the ground it might get stepped on and that would hurt the feelings of the Almighty. Truth.

Actually, the name of God was supposed to be so sacred, it could only be spoken once a year, by the rabbi, in private. As a result, the actual “name of God” has been forgotten. Saying “God” is referring to him by his title, like saying “the president.” Or so I’ve heard.

I don’t believe the Bible mentions a “Thunder God.” But, the God of the Bible does use thunder and lightening to let his feeling be known.

Nope. The religious school they sent me to for indoctrination. I really pissed them off when I said; talking snakes? I know we’re only children but do we really look that stupid?

@DavidHuieGreen
Book of Daniel is a maybe.Genesis, God was probably using the divine first person plural (much like the royal “we”).

Oooo, sorry. I was genuinely curious; but not so, now. Thanks for putting me wise – I’ve a lot to learn.

My husband’s parents were Buddhists until their parents died, then converted to Christianity. Sometimes people want to be part of the dominant culture. They couldn’t dishonor their parents by converting when they were alive, however.

Hey LWP! You changed your avatar. A football hero? I guess they need all the support they can get these days.
BE THIS GUY about 10 years ago
@montessoriteacherThat isn’t any football player. That is Harry Carson, defensive captain of the 1986 Super Bowl Champions (the game was actually played in 1987) New York Giants (they actually play in New Jersey).He is one of the most intelligent, thoughtful men ever to put on football jersey. He is now working on behalf of players who are suffering from ailments that may have been caused by head trauma.

I’m not sure we can split hairs too much with the bible, there are many versions of it.

I am not all that crazy about religion either, so it is sometimes difficult for me to defend it. However, I will admit that there are religious groups who do great work in places where no one else would go. Ebola infected Liberia is only one example. As human beings, what are we to do? Write them off? Sometimes religious groups are the ones who have the organization to help. I am not talking about proselytizing, rather, helping to keep people alive.

JHVH is an acronym for ‘Your Mileage May Vary.’

@leftwingpatriot .@DavidHuieGreen“Genesis, God was probably using the divine first person plural (much like the royal “we”).”.Divine first person plural is a circular argument, not addressing why there is a plural in the first place.For the royal we, the king believed he spoke for all the people of the nation. When they ain’t nobody else, the use of a plural can not be speaking for the nonexistent others.
