Gender is more cultural than XY chromosomes still the gender and sex of humans isn’t a dichotomy, it is a spectrum just as sexuality is.

The 3rd-person singular pronoun is the last vestige of gender in the English language, and it would be better off dead. We need a decent gender-neutral “human” pronoun (not “it”, which is for things). Unfortunately, all of the dozen or so that have been proposed thru the years pretty much suck. My own favorite (probably doomed like the rest) was to utilize the 4th and 5th vowels as 1-letters words. “O”, “A”, and “I” are already words, and I like the otherwise unclaimed “U” (2nd-person) and “E” (3rd-person) to round out the complete set.

Good grief. What a load. Shack up as you wish. It’s none of my business, and I don’t want it to be any of my business.

I am strictly anti-noun.

It’s standard to address someone as the gender they present themselves to be, and this person pretty clearly is presenting as male.

And then there’s those of us who’re generally addressed in terms like “Get over here, stupid #$&%#$!”

Gotta love the blinding jargon in panel four. I used to have to sit through meetings full of words like that.

I’m to old for all this. Wake me up when it is time to make a decision. I would like to see where this ends up. A journey without an end is just dedicated wandering.

Funny, Trudeau is a liberal cartoonist and I get this strip, but in another way it does a good job poking fun at all the labels people have been putting on themselves and others.

How about using polar coordinates?

With what’s been happening in my family over the years, nothing shocks me any more. For example, when transgendered daughter informed me she’s a lesbian, I told her she’d have to do a lot better than that to bother me.

I think of hermaphrodites and transitioning trans people as “it.” Some people refer to a person of unknown gender as “they” but I think this sounds silly, like the “royal we.” My new friend, who goes by the stage name Eugenia Slimesworth, is a transgender show woman who hasn’t had the operation yet, but plans to someday. You can google pictures of her wacky Cher-like appearance.

The singular “they,” in the absence of any stated preference, is perfectly fine, both socially and grammatically. It actually has a long history to it.

And unlike “it”, it doesn’t carry connotations that the person being referenced isn’t, well, a person.

Hermaphrodites are people who started out as two people, one male, one female. The two fertilized eggs developed into a single embryo. Interestingly, last I checked, a hermaphrodite has one testicle, one ovary.

Sometimes this happens with 2 male eggs or two female eggs. A woman in Tallahassee gave birth to children when DNA test of cells collected by a mouth swab indicated he was not their mother but rather their aunt. Fraud was suspected and disproved when she gave birth to another “niece” with witnesses verifying the facts. DNA from other organs showed different origins.

There have been people convicted of rape based on confessions and eye-witness testimony but who were later released because DNA from mouth swabs did not match DNA from the rape victim.

I wonder if DNA from their semen would have matched. To my knowledge, nobody checked.
