Back in the late 70s I got caught in upstate New York doing 60 in a 55 on I-87. The trooper gave me a $7 speeding ticket and three payment options. I could pull into the next town and pay the town clerk, mail a certified check to that same town clerk or ignore the fine and never enter the US again. I paid the fine.
Talk about getting an upcharge. It would probably be worth it if you were going to jail anyway for something piddly. If you’re going to be punished, make it for something

Do you really have to appear in court for a traffic ticket in the US ?

Look at it this way Eno, you’ve got 3 months to amass more tickets.

If you can delay it for 3 years, maybe the cop won’t even remember you.
