Where I live there is a parking lot near the courthouse for jury members to park in at no cost. Part of the summons includes a parking permit that you leave on the dash. Without that your car could get towed.
If you don’t want to serve, show up on your appointed day, and when questioned by either the defense’s lawyer or the prosecutor, say you either strongly like or hate whatever the issue is. One of the 2 lawyers will ask for you to be dismissed. Works every time.

In the past, I was paid for jury duty and it was enough money to cover the cost of parking.
