So – if in one reality Endtown was nuked ten years ago, in this reality will Endtown be nuked sometime in the future? Since Wally/Cracked Cat has now been forewarned, will he be able to save it?
I think one of the more knowledgeable followers said that Marx meddled in the Topsiders plans for Endtown. Either Marx or someone in the Topsiders lab.
Soo, probably a bad moment to bring this up, but… Is the sentient, trigger-happy, xenophobic gun wired to transmit signals to Topsider Colonies, because if so the question of this being an alternate universe or not suddenly becomes moot
Time is relative. Infinite time lines of reality all moving along in time. Each line (reality) is specific to itself. Wally is describing his timeline. Terrence is describing his timeline. The question is what timeline are they in now?
OK, so if you look at the November 2, 2010 strip, you will recall that Endtown was NOT destroyed. The Topsiders were tricked into bombing a decoy site. So yes, the good doctor believes Endtown was destroyed because all Topsiders believe it.
By Wally’s reckoning, they left Endtown a year and a half ago. Not sure how long Wally was in Endtown, but he had been there about 3 months when he was dragooned into Flask’s destroy the rocket expedition. Some more months before he and Holly escape from Endtown.
What we don’t know is the time interval between when the topsiders launched their nuke at where they thought Endtown would be and when Wally showed up. This “a decade ago” implies something like 7 years. But when we first encountered Wally, he said he had been wandering for six years. Endtown had certainly been in use for a while then, implying the blow-up had occurred years before.
So where was Wally when he began wandering? He had been with a military unit, which seemed to be overseas. And just how did he manage to survive for 6 years alone when food was becoming more scarce? And the topsiders lurking in cities…
We know Holly’s story of the blow-up, and we know that the survivors took an elevator down to whereever, But there doesn’t seem to be any city remains above/close to Endtown . Was the entire city reduced to dust by Amesworth radiation? Or is/was there an underground railway?
It is possible that time ran at a different rate in the bubble containing Eden. But if it was at a slower rate, as implied, it seems that that would impede the research project.
Perhaps we’ll get some explanation from Neathery. Or not…
That’s a thing that always gets overlooked for a story. How long does it take? Flash Gordon doesn’t wait for the bus. If you were being strict about it, many stories would have had only one or two adventures per characters before retiring them from old age. Wally, and his “accidental time travel” he hopes. Endtown might not last 10 years, or it might have started growing enough food by then. And a new generation of ET’ers that would be causing more trouble out in the wastelands. But a good question is- How old is Holly?
Wally was in Eden at least a year, but less than two. According to what Alan said in the strip 01/18/2019. If it was less than a year, then Alan wouldn’t have said “less than two years”, he would have said “less than a year” or “only X months”.
I’ve tried to figure out how far Wally has travelled since he left Endtown, without any success. They left Endtown, walked to Albion West (but don’t know how many days it took) (12/24/2013), met Sarah and Jim (01/07/2014), drove for a while (02/03/2014), then they headed East (03/04/2014) for a while they tried to drive out of the Great Waste. They found some weird hard formations (03/25/2014) , then crashed their Transporter. They were abducted to Unity (04/18/2014) then escaped after some days there (07/10/2015). They continued on the desert (unknown direction) until they were drawn to the crashed airboat, the Fitz (09/09/2015). They escaped the Fitz, and were still in the Great Waste (11/23/2016). The next time we catch up to Wally and family, they are in Eden (11/09/2018) , and don’t remember how they got there (05/31/2019) . It is revealed the Topsiders in the Eden Project have abducted “key characters”—anthros that are duplicates of characters that appear in the single issue of the Cardoodle Comic Book from another dimension. When the anthros were abducted, their minds were wiped so they’d “act naturally” in Eden (02/16/2021).
I just noticed that Wally/Cracky is wearing shoes. Wally never wore shoes, unto his dying. The fact that he hasn’t kicked them off indicates that Cracky controls that much.

Time slips differently when you only experience new things once a week or so.

I’m starting to think there may have been a little slippage between Universes.

I know it’s been a while, so go back to August 2010, when the Topsiders “thought” they nuked Endtown.

Funny, how time slips away! I need to go back to bed. May be things will be better when I wake up.

Given how many times Wally & Co have traversed multiple dimensions, confusion about how much time has transpired is to be expected.

Time flies when you’re having fun…
Apparently it doesn’t always fly in the same direction, though. At least not in the Endtown-verse.
