An escalator can never break: it can only become stairs. You should never see an Escalator Temporarily Out Of Order sign, just Escalator Temporarily Stairs. Sorry for the convenience.

I’m assuming the man on the escalator is smart enough to see that the repairman is an idiot, and will just walk down the rest of the way.

I remember a comedian on Dr. Katz who pointed out that escalators don’t really break, they just turn into stairs.

I have arrived at my beach house at Sea Isle City, New Jersey and the elevator in our beach house wouldn’t work until further notice.
