I was 8 when my younger brother was born. I have 5 older siblings, but most of them were old enough to do their own things (the oldest was 21), but I was still little & needing attention. My father decided that on Saturdays, he’d take me – JUST me – out for pizza & bowling. Keep in mind that he worked 5-1/2 days a week (he worked until noon on Saturdays). While I was just thankful for the attention at the time, as an adult I was able to fully realize the sacrifice he made…and thanked him for it. (My husband did something similar with our older daughter, taking her out to lunch 1 day a week, just the 2 of them, when her little sister was born, even though she was only 2.)
My daughter just had her third. I love them all and am thrilled to be close enough to help out. But I know now why only young people shy have children.
If you look closer (which I did because it was brought up and got me curious), it looks like Elly’s shirt is bunched up a bit and Liz is nursing. The baby certainly is in the feeding position, little hand and all.

yeah, playing with grandchildren (or stepsisters’ children in my case) can tire you

Look kids. I believe we have a nursing scene there in Panel 2. How often do you see that in a syndicated newspaper comic strip these days?

And that, my friends, is how urban legends are born.

She knows the baby’s thinking about the same thing she is!

Today’s strip was a wonderful “thank you” letter to Elly’s MIL. It brought a tear to my eye, that’s for sure…

I believe this comic strip is supposed to be in Canada.
