Andy: You got a "D" on your physics test?! Peter: It's not my fault! Jason was telling me about this guy who figured out it takes 10,000 hours of practice in order to be really good at anything. School just started a few weeks ago. I've only been doing physics for like 30 hours. Andy: Peter, even at the end of the year you won't have 10,000 hours! Peter: I know. So don't expect super-good grades. Jason: You forgot that Mom has over 10,000 hours of practice seeing through your bull. Peter: Life was so easy as a baby.
The 10,000-hour rule is one of many I can’t take seriously because of the round number. It has “layman” written all over it.
