If you buy an EV, the “Fees. etc.” are tax credits and incentives. They resulted in $11,000 off the sticker price when I bought mine in 2021.

I was texting with a car dealer about a new car, I kept insisting how much they would jack the price of the car over MSRP. He claimed nothing! He claimed it repeatedly! I drove there Monday and we built the car I want, great. THEN came the price of the car. They would give me exactly what I paid for my car 3 years ago new. Price difference was about $10,000 GREAT. Then came the PRICE. I told him he was insane. Here comes the guy listening into our conversation. There was an $69,000 added fee for being for want of a better word (hard to get) car. So I said how many of my cars do you have with 10,000 miles and new tires. He said none. We worked it down to $50,000…I walked away! AND it would take 10 to 12 months to get it

Present tense (before you buy): Sticker price and Stickee price …

Future Past tense (if and after you buy) Stucker price and Sucker price.

At least he’s been forewarned (or pre-bewared).

Make sure there is a warranty. Check to see what’s in and what’s not in the warranty.

Does the “Sticker Price” and “Fees, Etc.” really cover everything?

That last line says it all. In the trade it’s known as the ‘gouge-gauge’ line. It measures just how much suckers will pay for indifferent wheels.

We just purchased a 2023 Maverick hybrid and the only things added to the window sticker was tax and an additional warranty for a total of 8 years coverage.

Companies have been discovering the wonders of fees these last several years. Airlines have been tacking them for everything but breathing. Universities are giving big scholarships off their tuition, but making a lot of it up with fees. Hotel and vacation rental properties are rife with fees that are tacked on after you agree to stay. Restaurants are looking at various fees. And make sure you look at APRs for loans, not the rate. The fees can launch the APR into orbit. You really can’t trust the advertised price for almost anything anymore.

I bought a new car one time. When I learned it devalued by $5000 the instant I drove it off the lot, I said, I’m not doing this again. These days I buy $1000 junkers and drive them into the ground.

You might as well get the extended warranty now to avoid being bugged about it for the next 5 years.
