The meat was a welcome bonus, mostly I just enjoyed being out in the wilderness with friends, and watching wood burn in the evening with a beer in my hand.

I do understand that some people hunt for food to supplement their income. I don’t understand the ones who hunt for the “glory” of killing something.

I would have to check the regulations here, but I believe that while you can’t hunt and then sell, you can go south one state and buy and transport back home wild game, if you have proper bills of sale. Don’t think you could do that via internet or mail though. Similar to the way you can go Out-of-State and buy wine in some locals, but can’t “import” it via UPS/Fedex/Postal Service for personal use.

Don’t tell Amazon that – they might send out armed drones…

There’s usually quite a bit of meat on your average deer.

Venison makes for lovely chili and if the deer aren’t thinned out, there will be deer starving in the winter. I’m grateful for the hunters I know who share their kills with me.

I have an individual up the road from me that raises around 50-75 head per year, all for the venison market.

In areas where the four-legged predators have been exterminated, humans have to thin the herds. Overpopulation plagues and starvation are truly ugly things.Besides, many folks like to eat wild critters.I prefer organic, pasture raised critters, myself. That games flavor doesn’t appeal to me.

Going pickerel fishing with the boys up north, we figure our fish costs us between $60 and $100 per kilo.

I had not hunted as a kid, not with my dad, not with friends. I’d fished but never hunted. As an adult I went deer hunting, as I’m stalking around the woods with a rifle in my hands something happened… I could feel my senses …. I can’t put it into words. Things sharpened up, senses were more alert. It was new & different, something inside me turned on, enough that I could realize that something different had happened. No deer that day but I was now aware that there was more too it than it looks from the outside.

It is not “the” one thing, there are many things Amazon does not supply as a runner, biker, or a swimmer knows.

I used to go hunting with a camera. I just prefer a nice photo of a buck on the wall, as opposed to a severed head.

My dad once went deer hunting with some friends. When I asked him if he shot any deer he confessed that they drank so much beer they forgot to hunt.
