“Lovemaking kit” is not what they’re calling it in the police report.

Interesting Swiss VW ad on the blog. It’s worth noting that the convertible Beetle seen in the ad is very different from the convertible Beetles most Americans are familiar with.

It’s a Type 14A, also known as a Hebmüller Cabriolet. They had much more aesthetically pleasing lines than the later ragtop Bugs, and were only built through 1953.

Also on the blog: Syndactyly. I know a girl who has that. Two of her toes on each foot appear to be fused. They don’t look webbed, though.

Great photo of a train in snow! I just took the train from Sacramento to Truckee after a big snowfall – it was gorgeous.

I thought “forest” come from the Latin forestem silvam (outside woods) and “forest” is just another word for “woods”. Of course, my authority solely rests on the fact that my name derives from the Celtic word for “woods”.

Anyone interested in a memorable and enlightening treatment of people with severe birth defects should read Katherine Dunn’s 1989 novel “Geek Love.”

Rodent droppings? This must refer to the controversial plan by the Allies in WW II to drop infected rats on tiny parachutes behind the German lines to weaken and demoralize the German army.Of course in the end they scrapped the plan when they found it was more effective to send Patton instead (who, by the way, was already building a reputation for his spontaneous haikus at press conferences).
