Every character has his special “power” and attitude in this strip and Syrius represents the logic and attitude of early childhood. And he has the “power” to always warm our hearts!
Being siblings in this household they always try to outdo the other. I love Floof’s comment in the first panel, and Sirius has to be competitive. This is so cute.
A “Flong” is a printer’s term for a paper mold made from a comic strip, image or set type. It was used for rotary presses in the 19th and 20th centuries. Glen Fleishman has photos on his blog and his amazing book HOW THE COMICS WERE MADE is on Kickstarter. He offers actual flongs from PEANUTS and ZIPPY THE PINHEAD as rewards (and they are not cheap!) I had no idea that printing was once so elaborate, and I had an uncle who was a printer!
Well, leaping isn’t the same thing as sliding, but I applaud Sirius for making the effort. I can’t wait to see how Sirius gets his head out of the box!

Flong! doesn’t sound as if it was nearly as much fun for Sirius as ploof! did for Floof.

I learned to make a Printer’s Hat from a full broadsheet. At a working print shop… in a museum. I’m very glad I did. No, not a freshly printed sheet.

I salute you for the only (currently known) use of FLONG as a sound effect! (And thanks for talking up my book!)
