You all missed one of the big points here. Garfield was just asking for it. After all, he was sleeping underneath the mistletoe. The spider had to give him a kiss!
Kisses are often poetic justice.
That is so appropriate - I love it!
But what I wonder is, did he/she(?) actually just kiss him?
Or, was there a little love-bite in there?
Garfield does have a dazed and confused astonishment that seems a tad bit over-stated for just a little bitsy teeny weeny spider kiss.
And spider venom (from a large enough spider) can stun, immobilize, or even kill. Don’t ya’ll remember Tolkein’s spiders? ;-)
Maybe that spider love is more in the spirit of culinary delight.
Like, I just LOVE my chocolate! Yummmmm!

OMG – I’ve heard of Butterfly Kisses, but Spider Smooches is a new one for me! That should teach Garfield not to nap with both eyes shut!!

That’s a hell of a way to be woke from a nap
Rise22 about 14 years ago
Actually, the average person is expected to swallow 8 spiders during their lifetimes….that is online at medical sites…not necessarily Snopes…

Maybe Garfield (or Jim Davis!) just saw the movie “Kiss of the Spider Woman”. :)

The spider PUT the mistletoe above Garfield - note the silk thread ABOVE the bunch?
All in the nature of “PAYBACK!” Spidey is too small to whop Garfield with a newspaper, so she does the next nest thing…

Oh what a tangled web we weave…. The quote is about deceit, but it works for sweet revenge as well.

Finally Garfield and the spider are friends. At least this Christmas anyway.

LOL! Mistletoe and Charlotte the spider. Garfield wonders if it was just a nightmare!
Fogger_man about 14 years ago
SPIDER COOTIES!!! I hope that wasn’t a black widow or it could have been the kiss of death for Garfield!
pswhitlark about 14 years ago
Could have been dog cooties, or maybe mouse cooties… That’s what you get when you sleep under mistletoe…
