Friday strips usually involve dating and this is another Liz and Jon date rather than another Garfield and Arlene date. Friday the thirteenth is considered an unlucky date by many but Garfield recently said that he prefers ANY Friday to ANY Monday.
What do people have against polka music? There are some really great polkas out there, like the Chicken Polka, the Ei, Ei, Ei, O Polka, the Laughing Polka, or the Too Fat Polka.
Two comments. First, while I am not a big fan of polka music, it sure beats the heck out of a lot of the music I get on hold. Some of it is almost as bad as fingernails on a blackboard (a reference the youngsters will not fully understand). I am usually annoyed when I call so they put on must that just gets me more tense.
Second, I worked for a small town radio station in Central Texas 50 years ago. The area had a large Czech community. We had a local fellow of Czech heritage come in and do a two hour polka program every Sunday afternoon. I knew people in the nearby big city who would tune in to hear his polka program. But that station is long gone. Sold out by FCC rule changes and the greedy owners of the station.
I can take the occasional spin of the Matys Brothers’ Who Stole The Keeshka?, the Sunglows’ Peanuts or Frankie Yankovic’s Tic Toc Polka. But a solid hour of any one genre would be a bit much. Variety is the spice of life!

I don’t understand why other people in this comic strip don’t like polka music but Jon does.

What is happening with GoComics? Why are the strips late?

If you put in on speaker your arm won’t get tired holding it to your ear.

I dunno, Jon – even the grooviest hold music can get really old.

When will Liz decide to make an honest man out of Jon?

I have been irritated in the past when they took me off of hold from a song I was enjoying.

If Jon has been waiting THAT long, it’s probably best to hang up and call again.

I recently found out that Weird Al Yankovic’s father was a big band polka leader. . . . That explains so much.

To quote the far side…
“Welcome to heaven. here’s your harp.”
“Welcome to hell. here’s your accordion.”

At least put it on speaker phone so you can do something while waiting. And so we can all “enjoy” the music.

I have to wonder what company plays polka music while people are on hold.

Even bagpipes would be an improvement on some of the obviously AI hold crap.

Remember that it’s “800” that’s toll-free. “803” is South Carolina.

Jon, if you have any sense at all, don’t start singing along with:
I don’t want her,
You can have her,
She’s to fat for me.
She’s to fat for me.
She’s to fat for me.
Oh I don’t want her,
You can have her,
She’s to fat for me,
She’s to fat,
She’s to fat,
She’s to fat for me.
