When I could not read well, I enjoyed this strip/ So happy that I am still reading Gasoline alley as so much else has changed by my 9th decade on this orb.
Hmm… I imagine folks are used to me being a bit late with an update (of the classics).. but I dunno that I like the feeling of there being no strip for the first of the year on the current GA strip.
I can’t imagine the recent consolidation/standardization/(homogenization?) of the nation’s printed comic pages is doing a number of strips any favors in terms of making them a prosperous ongoing concern.
I suppose the comic of the 31st can certainly do double duty for today, but the same applied for Christmas/Christmas Eve and there was a separate Monday version posted.
Happy New Year to all of the Alley Cats in any case!

And with that all said… I am again late with the first update for 2024, which seems fitting enough. Just about all of a full update is ready as of 4am local (I’ll operate on my Central time, and leave everyone to follow their own clock if in a different zone :P )
Look for a posting somewhere around noon time, after I get some sleep. And with the festivities (and a project) out of the way, perhaps I can get back to some version of regularity again.
The Seattle PI website has today’s comic. It is the same as yesterday’s other than it has “2023” and “2024” printed on the left and right sides, respectively.
For anyone looking, the opening installment of classics for the 1st have now been posted, and it’s a full serving, with bonus.
Phyllis has her luxury vacation at last, but it came with a wardrobe and new luggage to match the family’s new standing. And she’s already got her eye on Walt’s beloved “Old Betsy” as a prime opportunity for the next upgrade.
Bonus: A look back when Walt did buy Phyllis a very sharp looking sedan, back in 1926. Which the second car in the family seems to have disappeared at some point, perhaps to drive Elmer to the orphanage?
The sodbusters are panicking over the recent ‘attack’ by Crazy Quilt and Buttercup, and Shady Lane rides out to the Fort to ask the cavalry to restore order on the plains.
Minthandy tells his snipping minions to keep at it, though even if silk production is low a bit over three years after the big war, nylon stockings were introduced in 1939. (Chemical) Nylon was a vital war effort material, but surely they’ve converted American industry back from its war footing by now?
Slim has to keep glancing in his rear view mirror and Sidda Spell with the kid in the front seat, as he tries to figure out where he’s supposed to be taking these people. (Rufus, this is all your fault!)

Considering Walt and his offspring’s advanced ages, the Grim Reaper is also retired.

Since for GA the holiday strips usually match the one for the Sunday before or after, it doesn’t matter that today’s strip is late LOL

I am asking the same question! New Year was yesterday but we now have to address 2024.

What will the New Year bring? Apparently it won’t be bringing Gasoline Alley to GoComics.

A funnier line would have been, Ask him – I don’t wanna think about it!
