In college soccer, this year they implemented a new rule: no overtimes if the game is tied at the end of regulation. It changes when they get into the NCAA tournament where someone has to win to advance to the next round. I went to a high school match a couple of days ago and they had the same rule. Game ended at 1-1.
I think that sports should allow events to end in a tie. There is no real reason true athletes have to have a “win” based on a few extra minutes of play, which often could just as well have been a coin toss. Arbitrary “must have a winner” conventions seem to be a sop to professional gamblers.
Rather than a tie, or penalty kicks, play a 5 on 5, or 6 on 6. Hockey ot is 3 on 3, then shootout. You still have player skill, goal is more likely with less players on field.
I remember going to the A-League (USL precursor) championship game between Seattle and Atlanta in 1995. The match was tied 1-1 at the end of full time but they went straight to a shootout with no overtime. Seattle DID win, 2-1, and as a Sounders fan I was fine with that, but it felt like a cheap title that deserved an asterisk. Did the Ruckus have a plane to catch?

I like Bucky’s idea for once. I might actually watch the end of the games, if they did it…

It would be nice if you could give penalty kicks to Bucky.

Very perceptive, Bucky! When Bucky’s correct, he’s correct!

Think maybe Bucky would enjoy people kicking other people.

They should save us the misery and just go straight to penalty kicks.

If they would eliminate off sides as a penalty, there would be lot more scoring chances with fast breaks.

Apparently an exciting soccer game is one in which no one scores. Give me baseball any day.

American football would be better if the clock never stopped.
Soccer would be better if they stopped rolling around like they got hit with a tire iron when someone got within 5’ of them.
