You’ve stated your position quite clearly.

If I’m filling the glass, it’s half full. If I’m emptying it, it is half empty. If it is just sitting there, it is half a glass.

Ages ago, when I lived with a friend of mine, we had a couple over for dinner. The couple had two little kids, and my roommate served them grape juice. The boy, who was the younger of the two kids (four, I think), entertained himself after dinner by running donuts around the living room while we adults (along with the daughter, who was perhaps six) sat around the dining room table.I should have guessed something bad would result from that activity. The boy made five or maybe six orbits of the living room, came to an abrupt stop, ralphed grape juice all over the off-white carpet, then immediately resumed flying around the living room. The parents remained sitting at the table, the mom tried to rein in her son verbally. It was left to my friend, who was at that end of the dining room table, to get something to try to get up the stain.

The optimist says the glass is half full. The pessimist says the glass is half empty. The engineer says the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.
