Grandma, why are you crying? I'm watching an old movie called Casablanca. The ending is so sad! Seems like something silly to cry about. Ha! I'd cry too if I had to watch a black-and-white movie.
Casablanca does not have a sad ending, unless you really liked the Nazi. The “past” is resolved, the married couple goes to their now-brighter future, and the passive-aggressive heroes rejoin the fight against evil. How can that be sad?
Kids do not watch anything before 1980, regardless of cinematography. And I am cranky enough that there is almost nothing later than 1980 that appeals to me.

I prefer b/w over color and I’m watching a Claudette Colbert movie on TCM right now.

I wonder if they will do the Shades of Grey in Black and White.
