I subscribed to a Netherlands-based online service for a free trial. I decided it wasn’t for me and cancelled the subscription. A couple of days later, I started receiving newsletters from them. I unsubscribed, and a couple of days later I got two newsletters from them in one day. I unsubscribed and emailed their customer service asking them to remove my email from their systems. The newsletters kept coming, so I finally wrote an email to this effect.
Email: “I have tried unsubscribing from your newsletters about six times now and you keep spamming me. You are based in the European Union and are required to follow EU law. Remove my information from your system. I will be resending this email every day until I have confirmation from you that you have complied with my request. Every newsletter I receive in the meantime doubles the number of daily emails I will send.”
A week and three newsletters later, they finally removed my email from their system.
“Unsubscribe” Means UNSUBSCRIBE ME NOT my story
