What a cross-over! Mark must have been reading all the ranting going on in the comments on Nancy.

Good description of the new theme, though…

Ooooh, Mark’s getting in on it too! Forget the 2016 election – the history books will remember the “Great Nancy Turnover of ’18”!

Looks like Heart doesn’t think it’s funny either.

OK, now I’m getting curious. Nancy was never one of my favorites, even as a kid.

I like it so far. That’s a switch from childhood.

Never a fan of Nancy, as a kid I only read it because I read every comic in the newspaper

To be honest I think the only reason I have been reading it until lately was the way Guy Gilchrist drew Aunt Fritzi, she looked liked my wife did when we met

My opinion, the new Nancy is awful, I already dropped it from my list

I added Nancy after Keef gave the new artist a shout-out. I am enjoying it, and I wonder if Olivia will add an “original” cartoon some day. I noticed that many cartoonists do two (or more) strips, although I feel that’s like playing simultaneous chess.

I feel stupid, commenting that the new Nancy is great. One of the dual-cartoon artists is, of course, Mr Tatulli, doing the couldn’t-be-less-Heartlike Lio. I enjoy them both, and I do feel like Heart is living my lost girlhood. Thank you, Mark, for sharing your talent.

So funny Mark. They’re confused and angry. The new Nancy is so much better they couldn’t even admit it if they wanted to because change means they’re a few steps closer to their ultimate reward.

Isn’t it the REALLY old fans who loved Ernie Bushmiller who prefer Olivia Jaimes to Guy Gilchrist? I mean, to the extent it’s generational rather than a matter of taste.

I like the old Nancy comics…did not like the newest…pulled it from my list on GoComics.

How much is GoComics paying these cartoonists to push the new “Nancy” strip, anyway?

I am on the fence about deleting this comic. I honestly don’t like the drawing or the descriptions of what is going on. All my old favorites for years and years ago are still enjoyable even if they have a little different theme, but this one is not to my liking and that is too bad for me since I have enjoyed it over the year, but waiting for it to improve seems to be a fools errand.

Guy Gilchrist’s Nancy is more like Heart of the City. Character development and longer story arcs.

Olivia Jaimes’ Nancy is more like Lio. Cast of characters, with a gag a day kind of format. Also Jaimes (so far, it seems) tends to do ‘silent’ comics, much like Lio. Sight gags. This is also much more like the old Nancy Bushmiller days.

I really got to where I could care about Nancy and Sluggo under Gilchrist. I want to give the new kid a chance, but I’m still not connecting with her vision yet.

Thanks for giving us a forum to talk about it here, Mark. I think how you manage to do TWO different style comics is incredible. Thanks for that, too.

Um… I don’t think you’re going to shock or dismay “old folks” with a new version of an old comic. The old Nancy strip was once new and not that funny for the old folks who knew it when it was new and now find the new version of the old comic not that new or that funny either.

What’s wrong with following the Calvin and Hobbes route? The cartoonist decides to end the strip, does so with class, and that’s IT. Then let a new cartoonist start a new strip with new characters of her or his choice and her or his own sense of humor. And just like a new tv show, after whatever is determined to be the “right” length of time, it either swims or sinks.

Amusing how Nancy took over the comment section of Heart of the city. I’m sure Dean and Heart are munching popcorn while watching it.
