turtle: So I managed to escape the circus and during a storm, washed into a sewer and ended up in a lonely creek! turtle: Eventually, I was captured and wound up in a vendor's streets cart, where I was sold into slavery! heart: Sold into slavery?! how awful! turtle: Well, the glass bowl isn't ideal, and the colored stones are less than cozy, but my owner seems sympathetic. heart: Me?! I'm a slave owner?!

Slaves work. So, what work does he/she do?

Why do I get the feeling that the artist doesn’t really know what to do with Heart now that she’s in middle school and no longer a little girl? This sort of story would have made a lot more sense when she was 8.
Is Tatulli one of those people who believes that owning pets is wrong and violates the rights of animals?

This is going to be quite an interesting tale. They seem to be becoming friends. Heart will either take care of the turtle for the rest of her life, or have it released.

Poor guy landed in the wrong sewer… one block over and he’d have been the fifth Ninja Turtle.

Speaking of turtles: my Mother-in-Law told us a story that when they were farm workers in the 50’s they took their small kids to the fields with them. There were a lot of little children playing while the parents did the farm work. Not far from the field was a creek and there where really large turtles… Her youngest son was a toddler, just learning to walk, so older kids would look after him, and they would put him on top of one of the turtles and see it give him a ride. Too bad that in those days people didn’t have cameras with them…

When she wakes up, she’ll set the turtle free, much to her mom’s chagrin, and decide she never wants to own a pet again!

That would put an end to the constant whining for a dog. Or we could be treated to a sad tale of puppy mills. I hope this doesn’t get too preachy. It’s a good point but I prefer a fanciful story of a talking turtle without a sermon.

Seems he was up the proverbial body of water without the proverbial mode of transportation.
