There are other sections in the paper?

Well, they’re both funny—sometimes.

Ah. Back when the comics in our big-city paper were eight pages on Sunday, I’d save them for last — like dessert.

I also came to reading the editorial page via the cartoon-political cartoon on the editorial page-editorial route. Sometime, when I was way too young to appreciate fully, an aunt of mine give me a huge coffee table book ( in paperback ) detailing American history through the political cartoon. I seem to recall that our modern day editorial cartoons are mild compared to what was printed a hundred and fifty or more years ago.Alas, I have the book no longer – many pages cut out for extra credit on school projects etc. I wish I could find it again or that they’d reprint it. I believe it was originally published ( going by my own age ) some where in the early or mid 1950’s .

My opinion exactly First things First.Funnies then the news. I am going to laugh either way.

My mother, coming from Northern Ireland, used to say that the first two things she read in the paper were the Irish Sports page ( the obituaries ) and the Police Report. In her case, it was to see if there was anyone in there that she knew. In my case, it’s to make sure I’m not in either…then I know it’s going to be a good day !

i always read the obituaries first…….i don’t know why..just did…….then the comics next to cheer me up…..
