This is my grandfather’s lunchbox. He took thirteen sandwiches for lunch every day. Two each of six kinds of lunchmeat and one jelly sandwich. When he came home from WWI the grocer thought my grandmother had opened a boarding house. (He worked as a fireman on the railroad, back when you shoveled coal, so he worked it all off.)
I would make a bread loaf of sandwiches with different meats, cheeses, mustard, mayo and freeze them. toss one in the lunch box with a packet of lettuce and tomato and by noon it was ready to assemble.
