My mom always wants to make sure to get something different from what my dad gets, so that she can have an excuse to “taste” what he has. Or if she doesn’t think his selection is “healthy” enough she might critique his choice. My dad now actually often just beckons the server to his side of the table and silently POINTS to his selection on the menu, so Mom doesn’t know his choice until it arrives at the table!!!
I get what I want. She gets what she wants. If l get something she wants to eat, l share and visa versa. I Never order fish (allergic) and she never orders steak. It works….

My husband and I do that too. BUT, that’s because we split a dinner, the portions are always too big.

He’d be more decisive if everyone would stop telling him to tell them what to do. Or so I’m told.

Does splitting make for less of the overall amount of food?
