I got my bag back after a trip and it looked to have fallen between the luggage trolleys and stuck under a wheel. It was totally trashed. It even had wheel marks.
They’re called Airtags, and they’re awesome for tracking luggage. You can actually see it board the plane with you and watch it come to the baggage carousel.
There were real devices on sale for a while a few years back. Then the air safety people insisted that the batteries had to be removable during flight, which rather killed the whole concept stone dead.
After 9 / 11 they put security cameras all over airports and everybody KNEW they had security cameras all over the airports and you still saw AIRLINE WORKERS robbing luggage.
FYI: The transmitter is in his hand and the receiver is in the suitcase based upon the antennas used. The transmitter would have a limited range. The Airtag works because most airport have WiFi. Call Sign: KB2SYB
I’ve read about people putting airtags on their luggage. In one case the airline claimed it was lost but the owner tracked the tag being moved all over the city – including to a residential area – until it finally ended up at an actual warehouse where the airline was stashing “unclaimed” luggage.

In all my years of travel, I never checked luggage unless I absolutely had to. I always try to fly with only carry-on luggage.
When I had to check a suitcase, I packed all my essentials in my carry-on bag. I’d trust the government before I’d trust the airlines!

Your suitcase will go places you’ll never see. ;)

Shortly the bomb squad will blow up his suitcase.

They will ask you if there is anything in your lost luggage that you need. Like you are going to go to the trouble of packing non-necessities.

A homing device won’t be enough. He should also have a “tracking” device on his luggage.
