I’ve heard that the money that the big hunters pay is used for conservation efforts and the animals that they are allowed to take have been selected due to some reason, The real threat to most endangered animals have and still is poachers.
I replied to another commentator, “Destruction of habitat is the biggest threat. The only reason there is still big game at all in North America is because hunter-conservationists stopped market hunting and protected habitat, long ago. All state-level wildlife management (most of it, minus federal endangered species and migratory wildlife mgmt) is funded entirely by fees from hunting and fishing licenses.” I used to be opposed to hunting, but now I think it’s foolish to attack hunting when it’s habitat destruction that we should be fighting. It’s self-indulgent and frankly foolish to waste this energy when those who care about wildlife should be combining their efforts with hunters to protect habitat.
Thanks for addressing big game hunters. They are the reason for the most unnecessary killings in the wild. It is also the reason many species were hunted to near extinction.
Unless I’ve overlooked it, no one has made mention of John Lewis’s great contribution to the comics universe. Look up his monumental three volume graphic novel series “March”. He won a National Book Award for it. The quote about necessary trouble in today’s strip is at the very heart of that series.

I think Lio has confused John Lewis with Jerry Lewis!

Thank you, Mr. Tatulli, for getting me to search the internet for some connection between John Lewis and September 14, and finding nothing.

Um, no. Just… no.

I’m coming with you, Lio’. So tired of heartless, soulless humans trying to feel “big” by killing innocent animals.

This gets a “Like” from me for quoting the late, great civil rights icon John Lewis!

Lio went overboard once again, and once they see him and his contraption there won’t be a meeting….

They’re hanging up in my trophy room right now – 2 game wardens, 7 hunters and a cow.

Lucky for the cephalopod that Lio looks the other way (e.g., yesterday) or maybe his classmates don’t qualify as big game.

Those lions do not stand a chance. I expect Lio to have a nice lion skin rug soon.
