I’ve heard that in some countries, restaurants will pretty much do this. You either eat it the way the chef makes it, order something else, or go somewhere else. They don’t believe in the “have it your way” mentality.
I basically got that reaction when I asked for ketchup at a steak house, My Dad said there’s steak sauce on the table. I like ketchup on my ’burgers, to me a steak is just pre-burger and steak sauce is just spicy ketchup. Nuff said.

The chef’s special is what the chef eats. And if they say the chef’s special, you are not allowed to disagree.

If it’s poached salmon, it must be stolen.

Well, at least he didn’t say “ketchup”.

My thoughts on that kind of restaurant are “Don’t go there”.

Ah Harry, you have the culinary palette of a hyena and other carrion-eaters.

I’m one of those people who has tasted salmon. Leaving immediately is the best option as soon as you hear the chef is recommending it.

When the waiter/waitress brings my steak and asks if I want steak sauce I always tell them " I better not need it"
