I am not trying to be provocative, well, not unreasonably. My family never used the word “penis” as a word on our livestock farms, because we weren’t that polite when speaking about our animals’ genitalia. Maybe American families do not have anyone with a penis, but it really is not a rude word. Do they teach biology in American schools yet?If it is inappropriate, please explain why a formal anatomical term is offensive and I will willingly refrain and use “male hoo hoo” or “pee pee” or similar, as was used preceding my comment, and obviously equally likely to cause children to ask questions.But frankly, I would prefer not to insult anyone with such asinine language.

I pay most everything by computer. Love the convenience. But my water company doesn’t have an online payment system yet. Neither does one of the charities I give to.

GatoCat, Dad is paying the bills by check so the readers visually recognize what he’s doing. If he were paying his bills online, readers would see nothing but him at the computer, where he could be doing any number of things.

The last time I tried to use automatic payments from my account, the company tried to take it a couple of hours before I got around to depositing. Now I use computer banking, but no payments go out until I set them up.

According to my Merriam Webster dictionary, dork means nerd or jerk and dorky was defined as foolishly stupid. I don’t think Quill meant either of these. the way it is generally used, ditz or ditzy would be a better synonym or zany or silly. Quill is saying she is a little silly but he finds it adorable.

I have tried for years to get my now-21-year-old son to keep a written check register showing his debits and credits. He says it’s all listed on the computer – he doesn’t need to. I guess it will take a disagreement with the bank and him not having his own record of a transaction to wake him up. I just hope it isn’t a huge amount.

I pay most of my utilities by check as they charge a fee (sometimes up to $4!) for using a debit card over the internet.

While I don’t agree with Nab’s statistics, I choose to not pay bills online. I have a PC and a laptop and the skillset to use them. I also have high speed, not dial-up However I pay all of my bills by cash or money order as I do not have a checking account. This is all by choice. And, yes, I do live in 2012, not the ’80’s.

There ARE secure ways to pay online, especially recurring bills like cable and phone – currently, it’s up to 128-bit encryption, even on a 32-bit OS like Win2K…

I don’t know who’s more out of touch with reality at the moment: Nabu or you. They always were considered bad words until relatively recently, because only relatively recently has most of society abandoned religious values that far. “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn” was very shocking in its day when it ended Gone With the Wind . Now, anything goes.It’s irreligious people who are pushing to make those words acceptable – not religious people who are belatedly trying to make them unacceptable. Where are your heads at, skeptics? Supposedly you don’t believe and yet you use words with such terrible spiritual implications (not that I believe most people even understand what those implications should be, which makes things even more confusing for them). If you were a tenth as ethical as many of you claim to be you would avoid such language as men should avoid the fires of, well, Hell.Think about what those words really are supposed to mean and you’ll understand why they’re bad. But then, I keep forgetting: atheists and their allies by definition have no idea how to distinguish the holy from the common and their language shows it. This is true of those who have a form of religion but deny its power and those who just live their practical lives as if there is no God, not just those who try to come up with theoretical reasons not to.

…ok, i think the problem here is that you are associating these words in your mind with something “dirty” – when you say the word "sex’, you are probably associating those particular organs with your own early schoolyard revelations; perhaps if you referred to them as “reproductive organs” you may be able to talk about them without blushing and stammering…also, do young children read the comments section of these online comics? If so, what else are they reading? You may want to look into that…and I’ve given up trying figure out how to ask you what the “perverts” comment means…so I’ll just say “What???”

Of course they do, but it’s much easier for an Average Joe con artist to break into a mailbox and alter checks than it is to hack into someone’s bank account.
