They are very interesting girls to not make a big deak out of not going.. Here in the suburbs of NE Pa, girls order their dresses months in advanced… Stores even have a checklist for schools so that the same dress can’t be purchased twice for that school…. Only the unpopular kids didn’t go…. Props to Delta, but I am a little suprised Bernice is going to sit at home reading. I mean, Tolstoy is one of my favorites, but Bernice didn’t strike me as THAT unsocialable….

Luann…. Brought to you, by…
Jedro Dull… their anthology, “Celebrating 44 Years Of Being Non Threatening” and “Too Dull To Rock and Roll, Too Cool To Try”… on sale this week…
And by….
Clean Slate, Inc…..--(Disclaimer: I like Tull personally, but it seemed to fit today’s strip, and their humor is both dry and self-effacing at times…)

Y’know, B, D & L kinda remind me of Rush…. a trio who aren’t the “rebellious party type”, have different personalities, have lasted for so long, went through so many changes, and have so many inside jokes, and also have great comradery….

Well, I didn’t go to prom either…either one..
Not by choice, however. I asked the ladies, they just all said no.

I dont think the girls are missing out on that much. My daughter went to prom a couple weeks ago. She said there weren’t even a lot of people there, and except for the fact that her long-term crush finally asked her out, the whole event was a bit of a letdown. Now she’s glad she bought a clearance rack dress – she looked just as beautiful as if she’d paid full price ;) – and her group decided to skip the limo and fancy dinner. Says she’s glad she had the experience but she probably won’t bother going next year.
Maybe it’s different here because she goes to a big city school where half the students are in AP and honors classes and many of them don’t seem to be hung up on appearances and having the latest Vera Bradley or Coach bag. It seems to me prom has gone through a stage like kids’ birthday parties, where it became all about outdoing everybody else.

Glad to see that cool kids don’t feel any shame in skipping the Prom. It really only seems right for those who have a serious love interest.

Missing prom doesn’t seem to be a big deal, at least not for these three wild and crazy gals….

Yeah, Quill’s totally going to show up out of the blue on prom night in a tux, holding a corsage.

The strip keeps mentioning the prom. Do you get a sense that Quill will be here for the prom?

Depressed…Tiffany can’t go to the Prom with Quill, but she will almost certainly attend I think. I wonder who she will settle going with…? Oh well. I wish Luann would get a big cardboard cut out of Quill and take her comp to the prom, rather than slink about in her room…

Oh the HORROR!
After all, going to the Prom IS a Matter of LIFE or DEATH.
What about the others?
Rosa probably WANTS to Go, but Gunther’s too Scared.
Ox wants to go but He’s Not Gorgeous.
Tiffany wants to go but Quill’s not there for Her to FLAUNT.
And Leslie Knox is not going because He’s a SCUMBAG.
Heck, I Guess NOBODY’S going to the Prom this year….,

I went to Prom my Junior and Senior years of High School… each time, with very, very good friends… not boyfriends.-As a Junior (it was his Senior Prom) he — a guy I still think is extraordinary and wonderful — and I doubled with his best friend and his date. We all looked as gorgeous as we could do for the fashions of the times. :ºJ.The best bit though was when we left and shed our Prom finery (in separate rooms… minds out of the gutter!) and she — I think her name was Emily, but it’s been a long time — loaned me a bathing suit..The guys — also properly suited-up — drove us to a place that one of their dad’s was a member of… where there was an outdoor pool. Gentlemen that they were, they hoisted us over the chain-link fence and we swam, and splashed, and laughed. It was a lovely night. We all had fun… and we all got home safe and sound with a good memory.

Is Greenpeace even still around? I prefer my unintentional comic relief to come from old Dragnet episodes because I know Jack Webb will shut up after half an hour. Greenpeacers never shut up and they’re just as smug and self-righteous.

If you are grown men having a daily exchange in a comic strip forum, it’s understandable why you were invisible in high school….
twinsoniclab over 11 years ago
Such close friends that she doesn’t even know if they are going to the prom? If they had been they would have been talking about it for weeks, trying on dresses together, working on hair and make-up styles. And they both (not Luann, who I believe can keep a relationship going if it’s long distance, which feels safe for her) probably really want to inside. It isn’t just the dance, it’s the entire experience, part of high school, which they do enjoy.

“I see little to no hatred in Luann, Bernice, nor, Delta…..,JayBlue….Are you speaking of Rush Limbaugh ?”^Huh? Where did you see the word hatred?here is my comment from above,… you tell me….—
Y’know, B, D & L kinda remind me of Rush…. a trio who aren’t the “rebellious party type”, have different personalities, have lasted for so long, went through so many changes, and have so many inside jokes, and also have great comradery….—This is referring to the BAND Rush, who certainly don’t have any hatred amongst themselves, AND who keep on doing what they do, despite what anyone else might care to say…. that’s how I compared our “Tres Amigas” to Rush….

M kind of friends! Didn’t want to go to prom either but the school required us to or we couldn’t go on the class trip. Remember last year Luann had a hot date who baled (bailed?) out the last minute, and she had a successful pal-date with TJ. Again, TJ proved himself a friend to the DeGroots.
ACTIVIST1234 over 11 years ago
Levi, Quinn? Is there a Quinn we don’t know about? Is Luann 2-timing Quill in another consonant?

Yeah, I guess you’re right… to quote a “popular” phrase from the other day…. uggh….
vldazzle over 11 years ago
I had no interest in the prom or other school dances. The guys I dated were older. And there was a totally separate group of my friends who shared reading Sci-Fi and playing chess. School was just for classes to me and I also spent a lot of time at a hang-out across the street (forged notes from teachers to get out of “study halls”). I found it much easier to study over there with the jukebox playing and a cold Pepsi than in a “quiet” room with whispering, spit balls, and teachers patrolling.
vldazzle over 11 years ago
I’d still be friends with the Chess club bunch if I knew where they are. The only one at my school had various ways of spelling her name and the guys (from St Phillips) had rather generic names. When I was married (1959), my husband did not want me to have friends (and I went along with it) and the rest of his madness until ’75; at least I came out of it with 4 great kids. Met the love of my life in ’76 and still love him.

Proms are completely LAME
baileydean over 11 years ago
… “I also had no interest in the proms or dances. There was one girl I kind of liked, but was too chicken to ask her. I was asked to go to four proms AFTER I graduated high school, but I figured that if I didn’t go to my own, I just flat wasn’t going. The last one who asked me graduated eight years after I did from the same high school, I was class of ‘75 and she was class of ’83. She was always someone I could joke around and laugh with, but at the time, I thought that was about it. A few years later, we went out to the movies just for fun and things went from there. We have been married for 23 great years and she has given me two wonderful kids. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing.”…_Yay you! of that’s not a success story, I don’t know what is!

It would be hilarious if Evans introduced a character named Leviticus who suddenly appeared to ask Bernice to give up Russian literature for just one night….

You think commies are environmentalists! Haven’t you heard that the level of air pollution in China is so high that they had to stop running their factories days before they held the Olympics — and even then some of the athletes got sick? Most US news organizations don’t report this, but there are people in China risking their lives to protest against the air pollution. No, commies have nothing to do with environmentalists.
Peabody429 over 11 years ago
Here’s the bottom line — the biggest cop-out in the world as to why people don’t go to their prom is that they have something else to do, or that it’s lame, or that the “cool” kids don’t go. Reading a novel? Going to a communist party meeting? Really? Excuses are like elbows.

I also didn’t feel the need to attend proms… I had more than one group of friends, and each group enjoyed mostly different interests… whenever we were over each other’s houses (which was pretty much frequently), we had music and fun, and could generally do the things that some people waited for the prom to do (apart from having to don the “formal” wear)…. and there were times when some of us broke out instruments, and we jammed in the basement or the yard, with people there to hear and enjoy, and so that took care of the live band part… so the prom to some of us was just another “school sanctioned party”…. we already had our own gatherings and fun… and we went on after school to jobs, more education, and the like.. my wife and I had similar experiences, and now do the things we love to do…creative arts, community work and education… we were educated a lot, but we also had a lot of fun.. without a prom….
JayBluE over 11 years ago
BTW, you beat my story…. my wife and I were in the same high school, and later on crossed each other’s paths in so many ways… it was a looong list of things that we had in common from acquaintances to mutual interests, to the travels in our post school lives that should have led us to meet up at some point… but the crazy thing is we never did… until a mutual friend who neither of us went to school with introduced us, and from there, we laugh at how we were around each other all along, but never got together…. we both say “we just saved the best for last…"

I am hoping Tiffany messed with Luann’s application; it is way past time for her to get leveled; also why can’t her “meek” boyfriend tell Tiffany off in no uncertain terms?

You have to wonder if Delta belongs to the “pop-environmentalist” faction of Greenpeace.

My question is will today’s strip just be a transition to more things in another scene, or would the next part of this happen in school? Also,it looks like a transition to another arc, but maybe it’s too soon to tell….

“That’s a great outlook!”^Thanks! I won’t go into it too much here, with the comment police everywhere (or at least the ones with “fake IDs”), but we’re serious about our study of the Bible, and it has so many principles to help the two of us imperfect people make the best of marriage….-Second to this, she is my best friend, and we have such fun, and it’s the “unpretentious” kind…with all the stuff that happens in life, we try to keep joyous and keep laughing, instead of getting all sour and negative… I look back at some of my HS girlfriends, then and now, and say: “Yeah, some were nice, but I got the right one to go through the ups and downs with”…..
JayBluE over 11 years ago
“She will gloat about her going to drama camp with Quill and Luann staying home. I predict that if she is involved in anyway with Luann not being admitted, it will be discovered.”^I think Tiff’s “overconfidence” could cause them to put things together, when she gloats… or even works in reverse to cause Luann to become motivated to do something, causing Luann to become like a charging bull… maybe Tiff would want that, for Lu to get so worked up that it undermines the trust factor between Lu and Quill, or maybe Lu can be more productive about it, “with a little help from her friends”, for another Tiff plan backfire….

“Our senior class president married two months out of high school. Saw him just before our ten year reunion – he had 5 children and was in the process of divorce.”^Wow! I guess that shows life is sometimes the “great equalizer”… that, and nobody’s better than anybody else…we all can have a chance to be happy, and sadly, a chance to be miserable…
