Bernice’s expression in panel 1, and her reply of “Hm”, show that she considers the prospects that this is their last Christmas together to be far from a bad thing.

Those were the good old days when you could be silly without regard to Luann.

Rosa:As a member of the Peace Corp who will be helping starving, destitute families in Ecuador, I’m not even going to dignify that with a response.

We were so eager to get on to the future, that we didn’t really have time for nostalgia. Luann is making me sentimental about my wonderful life as an American Christian. How blessed we all are!
Swiftbow about 11 years ago
Only odd thing about the last few strips… Luann mentioned their 12 year friendship, but didn’t Rosa just show up like last year (in comic time, anyway)?
JayBluE about 11 years ago
Last ^♪ ♫… Everybody need reverse polarity… ♪ ♫

Honeysum, are you saying that LUANN is an American Christian comic strip? Damn, now I’ll have to stop reading it!

Until we meet again……..
svetlana17 about 11 years ago
Sorry for the duplication. I don’t post enough to understand how it works .

Never realised Luann is Calvin’s big sister.

Luann is worried that the universe which she believes to revolve around her (consisting of all teen-agers in Pitt) is flying apart, and the prospects of no longer being at the center of things has her disturbed and depressed.
jimshari222 about 11 years ago
They don’t go to church, read the Bible, pray, depend on Him. The only time they mention Him is when they say OMG. This is an American strip, but not Christian.

Rosa’s expression looks to me like she is thinking. “I never bought you a gift you silly gringo.” Also, usually this is the time of year where kids go home from college to get together with their families and see old friends. But of course, Luann doesn’t have a role model since Brad didn’t go to college.
JayBluE about 11 years ago
It’s not a very good poem, but it’s very deep…^I also found quite a bit of holes in it…..

Rosa would spend Christmas in Ecuador. Bernice will be in Pitt, of course, but she likely will spend the holiday hanging out with her “new” friends from Moony Uni.. Delta could come home, but there’s no guarantee that she won’t spend the holidays some other way, such as if a bunch of Howard students organize a ski trip or something. Luann must reconcile herself that growing up means growing apart.

That thing around Luann’s neck. I finally figured it out. It is a piece of macaroni

So this was the response that you had already programmed yesterday. On a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 is hilarious… well. Please program a funnier one for tomorrow, ok?

Oh, I keep forgetting. The character that Greg Evans wants us to think is vain, selfish, and egocentric is Tiffany. Got it!
the5thflame about 11 years ago
You can see why Luann is the only one not going anywhere after high school.
imbaldeagle about 11 years ago
it’s pretty obvious she’s joking. As are they all… except Rosa.Par for the course with HS students – and us as well, in all probability.

Isn’t it about time for Aaron Hill to show up? I’m just saying…
Argy.Bargy2 about 11 years ago
The sarcasm is thick in the air, especially from Bernice.
-Careful, you might upset Leviticus….
Willow Mt Lyon about 11 years ago
I’ve never seen Luann so selfish. Me, me, me. She is becoming another Tiffany. It used to be that friends moved away, and at best they sent a Christmas card. Now a bunch of electronics have reunited old friends and classmates, and we have become better friends than we were in high school decades ago.
Willow Mt Lyon about 11 years ago
Well, I certainly hope she was joking, but I don’t see any sign of it.
Argy.Bargy2 about 11 years ago
Getting some good midriff action from Delta in panel 1.
-
Sorry to suggest otherwise, but if you look at panel 1 on December 16th, you’ll see that Delta’s sweater has a lower edge that matches the color of the scarf she tied around her neck. I think that what you are assuming is her midriff is a miscolored edge of sweater. -As far as I know, most public schools have dress codes that don’t allow bare midriffs on girl students.

Luann lightens the tension at their somewhat disturbing thought of separation. They will remain good friends, even when or if apart.

Poor Luann, she just doesn’t get it’s not about her all the time. I would think the girls can’t wait to leave her behind.
seismic-2 Premium Member about 11 years ago
Quite right. If Luann says, “I want people to give me things!”, it is because she is trying to cheer everyone up by making a joke, and we should adore her for her sense of humor and for her “inner beauty” that makes her so sensitive that she realizes that the people around her need a good laugh, even if they don’t realize it themselves. If Tiffany says, “I want people to give me things!”, it is because she is arrogant, vain, conceited, greedy, selfish, and uncaring, and we should despise her for it. The difference is as plain as day, obviously!
Argy.Bargy2 about 11 years ago
A strange thing happened when I opened the ‘Luann’ board a few seconds ago. Your original first post, in which you wrote ‘Last’, has vanished.
=
What strange thing is this….
Argy.Bargy2 about 11 years ago
One rather substantial difference between Luann & Tiffany: critical difference: it says ‘Luann’ at the top of the strip=Maybe now that the characters are supposed to be going separate ways to new lives, Evans can accomplish the impossible, and please all the posters by spinning some characters off into their own strips.=I can see a ‘Tiffany’ comic, where seismic-2 is happy to follow the adventures of a hard-working wannabe actress who is beautiful on the outside (and not so much on the inside). We finally learn about Tiffany’s family; her mother, who raises pedigreed poodles, and her father, a penny-pinching banker who wanted a son and disapproves of actors. And we find out why Crystal hangs out with her.=And there will be a “Bernice” comic for Leviticus, where we get to follow Bern’s adventures on the campus of Moony Uni, in a dormroom with a mystery roommate who is never there when Bernice is.(Quill?) Bernice will dedicate herself to her studies to become a counselor, no longer interrupted by the requests from former friends who need a shoulder to cry on about studies, boys, etc. When she starts her intership, though, she discovers that the phrases she memorized in her textbooks are out of date.=And the rest of us can stick with the orginal “Luann” comic, and watch as Luann decides to share an apartment with a new girlfriend and attend community college. There, she meets a new guy who is interested both in her and his career.=Could work.

I expect tomorrow, to have them playing “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Crowded House… Y’know something?
