Luann by Greg Evans and Karen Evans for December 02, 2014
Transcript:
Quill: "All I know about Mr. Gray is what your mom said: He's a friend from work" Gunther: "What was he like? Is he a creep? 'Cuz if he's a creep..." Quill: "He's really not much of anything. barely said six words. Hey, Gunth? Don't worry, ok? I'll watch out for your mom" Quill: "So how are things in Peru?" Gunther: "Um... getting complicated"
JayBluE about 10 years ago
Guess one of the stipulations Greg gave to Mr. Gray to allow him to appear in the strip was that he had to be under a “gag order”. I guess that’s why he had all of those servings… After all, you can’t talk with your mouth full! Well…you could … but then no one is going to like the things that come out of your mouth… literally… – Right now, the “X” on the map stands for “X Factor”…

Complicated? Starting to remind me of Avril Lavigne.
Argythree about 10 years ago
So, Quill WAS able to defuse the Gunther explosion, after all! Good on ya, Quill! And it does look as if Rosa is trying to do some advance planning this time, instead of just guessing at the type of location where they would end up. The map shows possibilities for other adventures, too, since they might be near Macchu Picchu. Hope they get a chance to visit…

But you notice her plaid doesn’t stay in one place…

LOL!

Look, Gunther, if you don’t want to go to a remote village with Rosa, why don’t you just say that?! Rosa can’t read your mind, you know! And, besides, she is Really looking forward to this mountain village trip, and may not even want to hear any objections from you. However, like some poster said, they could be captured by some heavy-duty banditos for a reward… Everything is getting muddier and muddier… ;)

Re: Rosa and plaid…oh, my!!! I wonder why Rosa is doing so…da da dada… ;)
Airman about 10 years ago
At least it seems that they are sharing a room……a glimmer of hope.
seanyj about 10 years ago
Did you make out with Rosa yet, Gunth? You’re letting that fine Peruvian woman go to waste!
Meh~tdology, fka Pepelaputr about 10 years ago
So, Gunthie you’re implying that your mom would be attracted to an obvious creep?(He could be no worse than you, boy-0!)
ORMouseworks about 10 years ago
Haha, that’s fun-ny (re: Rosa and a black Sharpie). ;)
wiselad about 10 years ago
close to machu Pichu? I think I might have hit it corrrectly, the “village” is a resort village for tourists going to the ancient city
JayBluE about 10 years ago
If it’s like the “dotted lines” on the map, the story could possibly have some “twists and turns” and “narrow escapes”…
JayBluE about 10 years ago
It’s funny how Gunther “spied” on Quill for Luann at Drama Camp. And now It’s his turn….sorta…. –
znhoja about 10 years ago
Gunther needs a good talking to. Gunther mom dose not need Gunther’s aprovel on her chocie of frines.
Angelalex242 about 10 years ago
They’re not sharing a room…at least, that strip is no proof of it. That’s still the office cubicle. I think.
Angelalex242 about 10 years ago
On the plus side, Gunther has apparently turned Rosa to the plaid side, so there’s that going for him. It’s even possible he made that shirt for her from scratch, or even that she’s wearing one of HIS shirts…

I didn’t realize people have no direct route to MP. Makes one wonder how these ancient Peruvians got up there in the first place, having to build what they did without a road… ;)
ORMouseworks about 10 years ago
Well, it is later than I thought! Both the hub and IS Katie are already upstairs! Fortunately, I have some sweats on along with a quilted jacket…it does get quite chilly down here! But, I have my trusty portable oil radiator next to me so I don’t get too cold! Anyway, its time for me to say "Nite all (and to all a good night…rushing the Season, I know, I know!) ;)-————————————————————“Every branch big with it, Bent every twig with it; Every fork like a white web-foot; Every street and pavement mute Some flakes have lost their way, and and grope back upward, when Meeting those meandering down they turn and descend again.”(Thomas Hardy, Snow in the Suburbs , 1840-1928)

Judging from Rosa’s map, their village-goal seems to be in the Pasco region, possibly nearest the town of Oxapampa or the smaller town Pozuzo. Map.
wiselad about 10 years ago
by the map, it looks like we talking about the truck taking them anywhere between Mazamari to Atalaya, might be a rural area like Puerto Ocopa in the rural road 5s. but my bet (because it is between the highest mountains, but still in the mountain range) is around Mazamari or if it is 28c road, might be San martin de pangoa
fredd13 about 10 years ago
Were these real people, I’d tell Gunther that things “got complicated” when he opted to leave the country with Rosa, and that he knew and implicitly accepted that at that point. Everything afterwards is simply consequence that he has to cope with.

“Barely Said Six Words”, eh? Well You KNOW What They Say about Those “Quiet Guys,” Right G-Man?
Look: Quietly CLOSE Rosa’s Door, GO to Your Apartment, PACK Your STUFF, and CATCH The NEXT Flight To America. Then “Surprise” Mom and “Mr.Friend” with a “Homecoming” They Won’t SOON Forget.
Besides, the “Gunther-Haters” Around Here NEED a New Reason to VENT….,

Go home Gunther. The mountains of Peru? Talk about a fish out of water……
drewpamon about 10 years ago
I’m going to call it. Gunther is going to be far more useful and beloved by the village people than Rosa and it is going to piss her off. Other than language skills what does she have to offer them?
Chuck374 about 10 years ago
Gunther and Rosa are so different. Gunther needs to plan everything to the last detail. Rosa seems to like flying by the seat of her pants. Even if it means landing the same way.
Chuck374 about 10 years ago
Gunther appears to be looking for reasons to come home. Needs to step out of his comfort zone once in a while. He will be a total buzz kill for Rosa on this “expedition” of hers. He will complain about everything.
ACTIVIST1234 about 10 years ago
Go for it, Rosa! Don’t let the old folks delete your dream!
maverick1usa about 10 years ago
At least it is a smaller square & different color than what Gunth wears.

These two kinda act like Frank and Nancy might have acted – 30 years ago.
Argy.Bargy2 about 10 years ago
I think you might be mistaken. Rosa and Gunther did ok walking through the grassy field. It was Luann who had problems.
Petemejia77 about 10 years ago
Careful Diana Jones! Some of those areas are some of the most dangerous places on Earth!
slsharris about 10 years ago
This is getting a bit creepy and oedipal…
Caldonia about 10 years ago
Greg suddenly has a slightly more logical reason for Gunther’s concern (Mr. Gray might be a creep). It’s as if he’s been reading everyone’s incredulous responses over the past couple weeks! If only he’d been able to rein in the madness sooner by, say, not writing Gunther as so primitive in the first place.
ACTIVIST1234 about 10 years ago
“Barely said six words”.*Wrong, Quill. He said:*“Hi”“More spaghetti”“More spaghetti”“More spaghetti”*to be get four servings.
Pipe Tobacco about 10 years ago
I have been contemplating these panels while I indulge in a vanilla tinctured burley leaf in the bowl of my pipe, and I have reached the following “startling” conclusions:++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++1. Rosa is sort of a “flake”. I have been feeling this ever since Rosa reached Peru and had no inclination her uncle was a plastic surgeon. She is being just as flaky now as she was at the start of this post graduation misadventure. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++2. Gunther is becoming truly “annoying” at this time. Not because he is upset about big ‘ole Mr. Gray. Also, not because of his acquiescence to working in a cubical. And, also not because of his going on this hair-brained (aka flaky) scheme in the first place…. Gunther is being truly annoying by ONLY displaying the behavior of needing to ALWAYS be being lead around from place to place in his decision making process. He is like a bull, no strike that, he is like a lamb with a ring in its nose waiting for someone to string a rope through the ring to guide him on his next step. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++3. Quill (previously “Bland Quill”) is the most dynamic person in the story arc currently. That is not saying much, but it is an improvement in Quill’s character.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++As I finish my pipe, I need to state that it is quite remarkable how Greg can imbue such feelings in us with his drawings and story arcs. He is truly a artisan and craftsman.

hmm…forgive my ignorance of the current political situation in Peru, but is Rosa’s plan to go into the mountains in hopes of finding needy villagers going to have them run into some dangerous militants or cartels that have an overall low opinion of privileged American teenagers?
wiselad about 10 years ago
some people are doing it in various places, I already seen in gogle(as I searched for machu picchu ones) people doing it in golden gate bridge, in australia, in niagara and even grand canyon
Caldonia about 10 years ago
But surely the superfans are up to inventing reasons for Gunther to believe Mr. Gray could be a creep! (Not me. Personally, I believe he’s a harmless taciturn binge eater.)
Airman about 10 years ago
I yield to all of your analytical, incisive, and adult musings. Personally, I just hope that Gunther gets captured by that notorious tribe of mountain Amazons and they make him their sex slave.

No te preocupes Gunther, tu mamá está en buenas manos.
melmarsh9v about 10 years ago
Gunther is really getting pitiful when he is showing jealousy towards his mother’s (rather bland) “friend.” Rosa had better realize that if she wants a relationship with him, she will have to take second place to Ma Berger in Gunther’s affections.

Compare Brad here to how you think Gunther would react in this situation.Compare Nancy’s reaction to how you think Mrs. Berger would react. -
Argythree about 10 years ago
They all looked bad, but Gunther was asking Rosa if she thought he’d been ‘adventurous’ enough, and she seemed amused or happy about it all…
reedkomicks Premium Member about 10 years ago
Mrs. Berger would have a similar reaction to Nancy, but likely one of some embarrassment instead of anger. She would then joke about it later.-You don’t think she would start chatting with him?
