I would say that this is like a record with a needle stuck in the groove, playing the same note over and over again, except very few people would understand what I’m trying to say.-So I think I’ll try to catch a few zzzs. Night, all….

“You wrote this same story last summer, Evans,…."^Believe it or not, it’s been 2 or 3 summers ago, for that one…

“I would say that this is like a record with a needle stuck in the groove,…”^C’mon, Argy! Keep up with the times! Don’tcha mean an 8Track player with a stuck repeat button? No…wait, I mean, a CD with a scratch that keeps skipping? No…That is, a Laserdisc™ player with…no, that’s not it….

It looks like four rights make a…well, you know.
JayBluE over 9 years ago
But you know, now that I think about it, you’re still on to something. There’s that repeating theme of Luann and Quill!‘s usual arguments over the same thing (time spent together)… – And they did do a “summer drama internship” for last year,(when somehow they manage to both get involved in Quill!’s production meeting, last year)…so this is in that sense, a repeat….

I’m starting to agree with ReallyBad2’s daily comments. Why is the main focus of today’s strip on the fact she hasn’t told her parents? This is a pretty minor issue regarding the trip, and it really doesn’t need a whole week devoted to it. -If Luann has the funds and motivation, she should go, and her parents input only goes as far as that…input, not permission. - The question is, why is Luann going? That should be the main focus/punch line of the strip. She may find her passion in New York (or at least this is what I suspect) but it’s getting kind of tiring to watch Lu be Quill’s tag along.-I’m not saying the NY trip is a bad plot device—it may be the most entertaining story line we’ve seen in a while (imagine them running into Aaron Hill), but as aforementioned, the focus here is really in the wrong place.-Lu, what are you doing with your life? Do you have money for this trip? Please don’t pull a Gunther, and waste time and savings just to travel with your boyfriend. - WAIT – what if Evans is planning a similar break up route for Luann and Quill, as was seen with Rosa and Gunther?!? And then Luann comes home, bonds w/ G over their mutual idiocy, and realizes he’s been her soul mate all along?-Oh, no. shivers
Sisyphos over 9 years ago
Okay. So it’s clear that Luann (and Quill!) have not really made any plans at all. So far, there is a hope and a wish and nothing more. Maybe Bernice’s Reality Check will prove useful in spurring the kids to do some real planning and maybe even make this dream come true!

luann should be an adult by now, she does not need her parent’s permission to go on a trip

Last I checked, Luann was 18 and didn’t need her parents’ permission to go on a trip to New York.
thebigboot over 9 years ago
To those who keep bringing up Luann is 18, her parents can’t stop her I feel there is one main issue. Money. Not even counting getting there New York City is expensive so how wol she pay for it.

Luann is 18 and in college now, she no longer needs her parents’ permission.

If she is 18?? It don’t matter what her parents think.
Dour Scotsman over 9 years ago
She is 18, parents don’t get to say no anymore. If she could join the army without permission she sure as heck doesn’t need it to go to NYC
Deezlebird over 9 years ago
Luann still lives at her parents’ house and they are paying for her college. Their house, their rules. The fact that at 18 many teenagers have already slept together is immaterial. I doubt she has the kind of money you would need for such a trip. And her folks may wind up saying “OK, go, but look for a place to live and a job when you come back.” Not that I see that happening.
I actually hope she winds up designing sets, which is apparently what she has a talent for. Maybe this will open up some doors for her.

RB2, I do see your point about finances. I have made my own decision about how to view the expenses for Peru in regards to Gunther. To resolve the story in a somewhat realistic fashion, I am assuming (telling myself) that Rosa ended up footing the bill for the plane travel, and that the hotel they stayed at was a “perk” they both enjoyed (well, Rosa utilized at least, not that she enjoyed it) while working in the telephone answering cubicles of her uncle’s massive plastic surgery empire. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++Speaking of Gunther… I hope that the next time we see him, Greg has decided to move past the grumpy, rather annoying Gunther who is focused on Mr. Grey (I almost called him Mr. Green as he looked a lot like “Mr. Green” as portrayed on the early 70’s versions of the game “Clue”). I would like to see Gunther make some sort of educational decision(s) for himself and maybe land a summer job working in a professor’s lab as a work/study student. I think that could open up some fun possibilities for his character’s development.

William Loster makes some good points. The key thing is that Luann is an adult, and she should be making her own decisions. If she can fund her own trip, then her parents can only give input, not permission. If she needs them to fund it, then they can certainly say no. Or she could borrow from TJ….

OH, FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE! IT’S A COMIC STRIP, PEOPLE! SHEESH!! (I sometimes wonder why some of you even read it).

The parents get a big say if Luann is expecting them to pay for any of her trip to NY. The parents are probably paying for most of her college and living expenses, so No, Luann is not independent.
whiteaj over 9 years ago
So Luann is in college but is not old enough – 18 I presume – to make such decisions herself. Hm. Prodigy I suppose.

Why does Luann need her parent’s permission? She graduated high school and is now an adult. Have she forgotten that?
1148559 over 9 years ago
Well, she is 18+ so technically, she does not need her parent’s permission… unless she expects them to pay for the trip.

She’s assuming the Q’ster will get in and make it big !! Isn’t that a big IF ??
JayBluE over 9 years ago
That’s a good one! But perhaps there isn’t anything for Lu to have misunderstood, yet. Though it is a bit of a “jumping the gun”, and “writing checks before checking her balance”. Perhaps there could be a yes from her parents, but the fact that in her mind she’s already there, before “doing her homework” seems more of a “presumption” at this point, than a “misunderstanding”….
JayBluE over 9 years ago
“This is strictly my opinion, but in looking at the definition above, she is batting about .250…”^I realize I’m not “professional endorsement”, and I have a similar thought, but I’d say that’s a good assessment…
JayBluE over 9 years ago
Another “piece” of this conversation about “18” is that “age old” debate about compulsory service age or privilege (such as driver’s license) which is 18, vs. “legal drinking age” (21). There’s also the age of consent for marriage, and other situations. Being 18 means not being considered a “minor” anymore, but in many ways, it has also been deemed as not yet “fit” for certain legal privileges. – Being 18 may allow one to have some freedom, but as the song goes, “freedom isn’t always free”….

I wonder if team Evans learned that they just raised the subway and bus fare to $2.75. She and Quill will have to learn about the Metro Card. And about the hustlers that will try to get their money or worse. Come to think about it, this could be educational tool for people coming to New York City. I am a native New Yawker.

My son is 25 and before he moved out a few weeks ago, he asked our permission. He knew he had the right to move out at any time after he turned 18, but he didn’t because he knew we might not continue to pay for his cell phone, car payment, car insurance, schooling, etc, etc, etc.
