YES! Night of the play, Dorothy-prime is sick, understudy is … missing. Disaster looms, but "NO! Wait! I have studied the lines, I Shall Be Dorothy. " The play is saved, Axel is so impressed he decides not to be a hoodlum after all, marries Fay, and goes on to found an Uber-style delivery service using skateboarders.
Boy let me resist from stating the first few comments are dumboist (my word and I’m sticking to it) in that they miss the whole point, as I see it anyway. Of course I know there is a lot of sarcastic humor intended, although sometimes its flatter than a flat earther’s science. Annnywaaay, I think this was brilliant on the part of Luann, all the proof needed to show that she would be brilliant working with children, contrary to her confused by the book BFF, Bernice. She gently, and beautifully got Fay to admit what she really wants, to be the STAR! And she could be the star too. Maybe Axel will see how fantastic this girl is, and will gird for the long-run, but being a confused tween probably not. But Luann has gotten Fay to admit to what she really wants, now the issue is to get her to GO FOR IT!! Not to let helicopter moms, or allergies, or most importantly, a lack of confidence keep her from going for it. Like I said I root for Fay, and I admire our girl, Luann. God, Fay you would make the best Dorothy!
Are we really reading about a tween’s theatrical aspirations? I know I don’t have to come in here but…really? Greg seems to be fascinated with the theater. He already did a play with Luann in the lead. A musical, I think. Gunther made her costume. There was no point in that arc, either, except that Tiffany did not get the lead and she fumed the whole arc. Not to mention Luann having had a theatrical boyfriend and then there is Pru. Will Luann do a play for Fay and have Gunther make the costume?
That’s a Great Idea, Lu! Take Fay to the Play and have Her act out the part while She’s sitting in the Audience.
And Fay? Be sure to Sing the “Dorothy” part Out LOUD!
Relax! The Folks Around you will think it’s some sort of “audience participation” thing. Like the “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” or Ann Eiffel’s Lingerie Party…..,
Nice comic. I enjoy that Fay is able to think realistically about her first effort for being in a play (something smaller, a flying monkey role)…. but then for the instance of “imagination effort”…. she instead picks her aspirational role…. Dorthy!
For me, today’s effort has further endeared me to Fay’s character. I am looking forward to more about her. It will be nice to see her grow and develop.
And, it was especially nice (for me) that there was no mention of Axel today!!!!
It’s my guess that Fay already knows Dorothy’s lines. At The Fuse space on off hours, Luann could have Fay do a shortened performance – with some simple makeshift costumes for Ox and others. It would probably go well and Fay would be encouraged. With a goal in mind – Fay’s health might improve.
There is no denying that Luann is having a good effect (so far) on Fay. And Greg (with Karen), being a long-time professional and one of the best in the comics business, knows exactly how to make Fay a sympathetic character that we all (except for those of us with our own personality disorders to deal with) have to like and root for in her struggle with allergies, whether wholly chemical or stress-enduced by (e.g.) an over-protective Mom who could be more sensitive to the needs of a shy adolescent….

And this is when Fay learns that she is allergic to blue gingham dresses.

If she thought she would have to do it, she picked a non-speaking role; when she found she had no obligation, she picked the lead.

How can they practice without a copy of the script?
Rosette about 7 years ago
She will end up playing Dorthy, as someone else predicted a few days back. Dorthy will fall ill, and Fay will know all the lines.

Fay will know ALL the lines. Every part.
Fay and Luann go to watch the first performance.
For the second performance, there’s a new promoter facing the stage.

Have Fay read some lines and see how she does.

Good for you, Fay! That’s a good start.

Tiffany, get yourself out of that dorm room. You can still dish out the same fashion advice you did when you were slim and obnoxious.

It’s interesting how Greg is choosing to portray Luann as so competent in her interactions with Fay.

Always be yourself. Unless you can be a flying monkey. Then, be a flying monkey.

Hmmm… as someone else hinted at, the operative words are “…without having to actually be in the show…..”. It will be interesting to see what happens.

This is a weak story line. I get why they are doing it, but it’s just lame.
