RIP John McCain. Think what you want about his politics, but never forget that he survived more than five years as a POW in Hanoi, refusing to be released ahead of those who had been captured before him, and that makes him a true American hero. Godspeed.
*Yes, it’s possible that Frank and Nancy simply didn’t tell her that Puddles was supposed to be on a diet. But since Nancy (whose idea the whole diet thing strikes me as) has always been portrayed as competent and organized, while Luann has always been shown to be scatterbrained, oblivious and lacking in self-discipline, I’m gonna go ahead and assume the fault doesn’t lie with the parents here.
@Namrepus: While I often disagreed with Sen. McCain’s political views, I always respected this effort to work in a bipartisan manner, to be civil and to get something accomplished. All of this is sadly lacking today. Considering the way the current occupant of the office at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue disparaged the Senator’s war record (and no one seemed to care), it seems respect is not a desired thing anymore. Too bad. It means we will see fewer and fewer like the Senator, and more and more like ‘TOTUS’…
Junk Food. Luann seems to eat nothing but junk food and yet she manages to stay slim and trim. All the weight shows up on Poor Pud. Wake Up Lu! You’re Killing your dog and You don’t know it.
And You may want to prepare for battle while you’re at it. War Clouds are gathering, and I fear “World War Tiffany,” Looms on the horizon whether the current story arc resumes on Monday or not.
As she grows up hopefully Luann will grow out of acting as an enabler in such situations. Most people do, so her character probably will, too, but when the characteristic becomes ingrained others get hurt. So, that is my hope today for Luann as a character and for real people.
Luann is simply and basically irresponsible, whether it’s taking care of her room or taking care of her dog. Sometimes, no matter how well you take care of your pets, Mother Nature will hit them with leukemia, or kidney failure, or any number of unwanted problems, and you fight a losing battle. Anyway, I can tell that this is an old “file” drawing because it was done before Luann had her butt and breast enhancement surgery. Frank also had some minor surgery, but we can’t talk about that. However, Nancy is pleased with the results.
Why is it that in almost every Sunday strip in which Luann appears, the “joke” is that the title character is completely irresponsible, but then on weekdays we are meant to believe that she has the makings of a great teacher of youth?
I use to sometimes give scrapes to my cat but when his health changed I stopped. On the other hand, my parents still occasionally spoil him with human food. I’ve talked to them and as long as they’re not constantly doing it, then it’s ok
Puddles thrives on casual hand-outs and leavings from a usually-distracted Luann. But even without that surfeit of food, why on earth would Puddles like “diet food” that is probably just as cardboard as the box it comes out of, Frank and Nancy?

Puddles has gained weight, but have you noticed that Luann doesn’t seem to leave as many food messes as she used to?

I don’t have a dog, but I dog-sitted for my daughter, and darn if I did not give in to the little tyke myself.

Nice of Luann to spill food on the floor and not wipe it up. Tiffany helped clean at The Fuse, while Luann blew off her own parent’s work crew.

It’s a mystery how Puddles has gained weight. I guess we will never know. ;)

Did the artist forget how to draw elbows in the third panel?
JPuzzleWhiz about 6 years ago
The way Luann is sitting on the bed in panel 3 — I’m assuming that she’s sitting cross-legged — is very bad for her neck and back.

Week before last, we were talking about Gunther and Les, this strip’s version of “The Odd Couple”.
Today, the man who created that duo, Neil Simon, has passed away due to complications from pneumonia at the age of 91.
