I’ve stayed in hotel rooms bigger than that.

reminds me of Japanese apartments (I think like that of Tomoya and Nagisa in the “Clannad” sequel anime “Clannad After Story”)

I can tell you from my own childrens’ current experience, a dormitory room that looks like that, belongs to a university which has not upgraded their dormitories in 40 years.

if it was you or me we’d be thrilled there was any rooms at all for us to save some money but for Tiffany a person who is used to having the big ass rooms etc.. this is complete torture

I hope, in the next 40 years or so, she will progress to the point of having a good laugh over this!

This is a cell. One tiny window that looks out at a brick wall of the next dorm.

18′ × 9′? Yiiiiikes and no private bathroom, no source of water, no space for a microwave, and tiny tiny dresser and no place to change clothing! The last panel is really nicely drawn… excellent use of birds-eye perspective!

That is not a room, that’s disaster. You’d have better luck moving in with Luann.

It’s possible to be very creative with a room like that. I would take it as a challenge. I hope she and her new roommate will be able to take it as a challenge—but I doubt it. They’ll probably hate each other, which is especially difficult in a confined space!

Bernice, i’m sure Tiff appreciates the help in finding a smaller a cheaper space. But you’re talking about a woman who’s used to living spaces where the bathroom and closets are 2-4 times the size of that bedroom.

And pray tell, what type of room do you and Dez share?

I still think Tiff should try changing the status of her room so she can have a roommate.

All this talk about the room rate going up… Ordinarily the room rates are set for the academic year and the rates wouldn’t go up until next year, not immediately like it sounds like here.

Here’s hoping Crystal has gotten her basic courses at the junior college and is ready to transfer over!

I’ll bet that Felicity Huffman had a better room than this……in prison.

I crammed 14 people into my Volkswagen once. I could hardly get it out of first gear. Good times!

At least start with showing the kind Bernice shares with Des. That one has a living room big enough for quite the gathering, yet the duo pays less (each) than Tiff does for her solo.

Someone’s probably going to say something about the Evanses being mean to Tiffany, but they’re unspoiling her and giving her a chance to develop character. With every setback she becomes stronger. Look at how much she has already grown! She has begun to develop empathy, she no longer invests herself solely in her looks, she has stopped waiting for Daddy to pay attention to her, she’s developing a sense of independence, and she’s determined to make something of herself instead of just being taken care of. That’s a lot!

All Tiffany needs to do is to move back home. Ann Eiffle will demand to her father to let her move back to her dorm.

Well, I for One, can’t wait to meet Tiffany’s new “roommate” IF she goes along with staying in this “broom closet.”

The question NOW is, “Who” will be the “Roommate from H3LL?”The New Person or Tiffany?

And I’m going to miss Tiffany’s old dorm room. :(

Looks right…a typical dorm room. One dorm at my college had bunk bed option…there were bars on back of the closets and the bookshelves went under the other end. My roommate and I bunked our beds so we could have more room. All other dorms did not have bunk bed options. I heard these beds were removed due to injuries while moving the top bed. Too bad. Anyway, Tiffany, yeah, a nice closet size, indeed. You only need to demolish a wall on your side to move your bed into next door so you could have a walk in closet….expect your roommate to demand to share it, though.

This cozy little postage stamp is a palace compared to the absolute hell holes that I’ve stayed in during my youth. Why do we subject the human organism to really crappy things in the name of adventure?

Where is this even going I doubt all this so called “development” is going anywhere because Tiffany not going to be support herself once Ann’s gone she just go back to her b****y ways

“Oh, and Tiffany? You’ll actually have three roommates. You might want to look up ‘hot bunking’.”

This is the Hallowe’en horror story.

Nothing halloweeny? I mean a dorm room is scary but still.

Closet? Tiff doesn’t have anything to put in the closet.

Note to Tiffany: Keep your focus on your goals. All of this is only temporary and you still have more than what some people hope to have in life….having a roof over your head and good friends who are willing to help you. Yes, this is quite a humbling experience for you, but you’ve been doing great so far! You’re stronger than you think.

My son started as an honor student at U.C. Davis in 2014, and the residence hall was only months old. The room was about this size, but turned 90 degrees to where it was deeper than it was wide. As you came in, there were two small open closet/shelf areas on the left, there was room for a small refrigerator and a microwave on the right, plus a little open floor space. His roommate’s bed was on the left wall, and his was on the right. After the beds, there was a desk on either side facing the side walls, and between the two desks, there was a window looking out to the bicycle racks. No in – room running water or bathroom. Not too much different than what Greg drew here.

Above, someone mentioned a room like this must be in a dorm that is over 40 years old. I assure you, where my son was was a new construction just months before, not over 40 years old.

Also, between my son’s junior and senior year in high school, he was invited by Stanford University in Palo Alto to have his summer there, stay in the dorms, eat in the dining commons and he could attain 8 units. Those dorm rooms were very old, and were not much different than these. I cannot speak for other universities, just the two my son attended. I lived close enough to the college to where I still lived at home while I attended.

I don’t know as a commuter student on m own I lived in some interesting places, but as for Tiffany reality bites. Lets she how she transitions into it or not!

My dorm at Berkeley was similar to this. We put the dressers in the small closets. Seems by the window (which did run across the wall)

No running water, no fridge, no microwave, no tv, no computers, no internet, one landline phone on the wall.. This was in the sixties.

I wonder if Tiffany even knows that other college students use a shared bathroom? She will be aghast when she learns she will not have a private bathroom.

That’s not the sort of room Bernice and Dez have. Show her one of those.

Speaking of closets, where is it?

Tif was making good money doing nails before game day, she should go back to that. The problem was the line of people at her door that made Bernice go Bernazi. So she sets it up online where she visits students in their room to do the work: no lines, no hassle, big $$$.

Bernice finally said it! I love the positive attitude she has in describing to Tiffany the possibility of a shared room. But for her it’s probably a trauma. She has to let go of the last trace of her past as a rich and spoiled only child.

This room doesn’t square with the room shown for Bernice and Dez. I remember a couple of parties being shown in theirs. Of course, this could be Tiff’s perception of a two person room if she had to move.

Some universities let you construct bunk beds which free up more floor space for a couch (or in some fraternity houses in the South a pool or poker table) ; use your imagination!

Hopefully, she’s got something to work with.

I’ve never seen a single-occupancy room that was larger than the doubles.

GnK continue to slowly, methodically, grind the Tiffany character into dog meat. I’m surprised she’s not on anti-depressants at this point. She rivals the tribulations of Little Orphan Annie. Well, as opposed to LOA, Tiff’s not been the target of a kidnap plot, yet. Perhaps Awful Annie still has a few schemes to further eliminate Tiff from the gravy train.

What about Luann & Desi’s room/suite? Or is Bernice just showing her the only room available?

So share room with someone. Or locate a home that has rooms for rent. She would still have her own Private room. But would have a world of new people to irritate.

There isn’t even room for a student to use a portable closet. Looks like the best one could do is anchor a wire along the wall and hope the paint doesn’t rub off on the clothes.

One would hope that a room that size also comes with only one bed. Not a premium single dormitory but just a single occupant room. Also be nice if the larger rooms had two beds for those that won’t live in a walk in closet but can’t afford a premium single room by themselves.

I like the perspective of today’s strip. (Regarding the artistic view.) After thinking about it, maybe there’s a metaphor for Tiff in my comment?

Poor Tiffany… Knowing that Ann Eiffel will be living it up with her father in Italy, while she has to camp in a half-closet with a total stranger.

Very close to dorm rooms I remember, except ours had no movable furniture outside of the two bedframes (twin-long)

Just do a loft bed. She can do a desk and a small closet under it. Hang curtains under the loft for some privacy.

Well maybe she gets luck and doesn’t get a roommate. Hahaha! That happened to me my junior year. Had a double to myself since the guy chose to move off campus and wasn’t replaced.

Perhaps the room has a good view. There is sometimes a redeeming factor, somewhere…

Buildings are destroyed by leaking water and mildew. No water except in kitchens and central bathrooms.Are those beds or canvas cots?

With all the focus on Tiff’s financial woes, it bothers me how it seems almost immediately forgotten just how close she is to failing her class. Seems like the dorm rate increase is almost a moot point when she’s close to flunking out anyway.

Also makes me wonder if she could find better accommodations off campus. Maybe she and Bets could move in together since they’re friends now and seeking a similar academic path.

In my beloved Tiffany’s mind, she will be living in a closet.

Was janitor of the men’s dorm complex at Georgia Tech in the mid 70’s, the dorms were built before WW2, about the size of Bern’s option, and the students would gift me with booze/weed every Christmas for cleaning up after them all year..!

Try to keep the end goal in mind Tiff – being free from Daddy and Ann.

She should quit college and go to beauty school. Its what all the high school cheerleaders do eventually….

Today’s tale has generated some very interesting comments on living facilities. I’ve enjoyed reading them..And don’t forget that barracks in the Philippians, circa 1960’s, had jalousie-style walls, not just windows, for air conditioning, and lots of cute little, harmless lizards to keep you comany.

Tiff the eternal (albeit unrealistic) optimist versus Bernice the Bummer. Some middle ground is inevitable.

And, there Is No Closet.

seems like Bernice and Dez have much more space than that; they have a small living area and (if I’m not mistaken) separate rooms. Maybe that’s because she’s an RA.

That shared room, even seen from on high, is a come-down. Can Tiff handle it? She is tough when she has to be. I guess what matters is, who is the roommate?
