I really hope this isn’t a pandemic reference.
In Room 2B?
You can’t miss it. It’s the only room with running water
Don’t get the skulls and the Ophelia reference! Now keep your explanations simple, cuz you ain’t dealin with the sharpest knife in the drawer here.
Eh? I don’t gets it.
I auditioned for Yorick once. They said I was too bony.
She’s trying for the Shelly Long role.
So, multiple Hamlets are going to audition at once? That’ll be a big time saver.
Hmmmm….. Culture in the comics? Let’s see how that goes. Well done! Thanks for the chuckle. Great way to start a day.
Too many skulls have auditioned for the role. When another came in, she cried “Alas! More Yorick!”
That many skulls gives new meaning to “infinite jest”.
For those who don’t have a “Complete Works of William Shakespeare” handy:
Hamlet: Let me see (taking the skull) “Alas,
poor Yorick! I knew him, Horatio: a fellow
of infinite jest, of most excellent fancy: he
hath borne me on his back a thousand times;
and now, how abhorred in my imagination it
is! my gorge rims at it. Here hung those lips
that I have kissed I know not how oft. Where
be your gibes now? your gambols? your
songs? your flashes of merriment, that were
wont to set the table on a roar? Not one now,
to mock your own grinning? quite chap-fallen?
Now get you to my lady’s chamber,
and tell her, let her paint an inch thick, to this
favor she must come; make her laugh at that.
Prithee, Horatio, tell me one thing."
“Hamlet” Act 5, Scene 1.
Yes, but the joke is that the speaker can tell the would-be actress who stepped into this room is an Ophelia type.
Lots of women have played the role of Hamlet. PBS had a half hour documentary about Joseph Papp’s Shakespeare in the Park staging of Hamlet that starred a woman actor. Unfortunately, it is not available on YouTube.
