I tend to believe the former is correct, but would also like to see the figures of where the money went. I’ve seen figures showing that the average individual GOP donation is substantially less than that of Democrats, and that of the top 50 donors (including corporations and unions) something like 75% donated more to the Democrats than to the Republicans. Campaign finance is an interesting topic and seems to be a place where quite a bit of misinformation is injected into the political debate.
