FWIW, we Protestant kids had to do that too, on Friday nights. We also did handicrafts and sang campfire songs (without a fire; we asked, but they said no because it was in the church basement; we asked if we could go over to the parsonage where there was a fireplace, but they said no to that too) to reduce the boredom.
