My late father-in-law used to work as a grade 3 teacher. It’s amazing how many people think that an educator’s day ends when classes are dismissed. No grading of papers at home, perhaps even on weekends. No teacher work days when it’s a free day for students. No staying after school to help kids who need extra help because they’re behind. What’s the worst is the myth that their salary includes being paid 2.5 months every summer to sit on their @sses. Sure, they get paid, but their yearly salary is based only on the time that they actually teach (not including the overtime for what I’ve mentioned above). Good teachers like Rich have a calling. Even in the years after he retired, he never stopped teaching me things that I’m forever grateful for. RIP Dad.
Still remember the day I whined to one of my teachers, “I have to stay in school until I’m 18!” She replied, “From me you want sympathy? I have to stay here until I’m 65!”
in 1969 Ron Santo of the Chicago Cubs did the same heel click after every Cub victory. The Cubs were in 1st place by a large margin late in the season. Unfortunately, for the Cubs, the New York Mets took over 1st place in mid- September and won the 1969 World Series. The Cubs thought that they were a cinch to win the pennant in 1969. When the Cubs were knocked out of 1st place I was extremely overjoyed. I’m a White Sox fan. This is still one of my most cherished childhood memories.
