10 good years - out of 50, hmmm… maybe that’s about par for many. I had two out of eight, then ten years of shopping, followed by twenty-five of great. It’s still working!

It is better to never have loved at all, than it is to have loved and lost.

Let’s not forget that Joe has those little hearts floating when he sees Victoria. He loves her even if her methods are a bit different. But then, that’s what makes her perfect - she’s got a bit of both girls in her, and Joe gets that.

BTW, someone who has been married and divorced can be a very good person to give advice (if they learned from their past mistakes). Someone who has never been married speaks from books or ignorance or prejudice - or a combination of the above.

Bob’s measure of success seems to be lacking in my opinion.

I’m about to be divorced, and I hope to be married again in the future. I’ve definitely learned from my failed marriage, and hope to use those lessons in my next relationship (whenever that happens)…

Jeez, WIley seems to be able to push buttons. I wonder if he actually imagines the threads that his comics will cause?

Marriage isn’t for everybody. I’ve got friends that are completely lost and seemingly helpless when they beak up and are single. They scramble to find another relationship. But others are blissful when single, and don’t worry about it. It could be some put a premium on freedom. Married people always feel sorry for single people, because they would miss having someone around. They shouldn’t. Many single people feel sorry for them, especially when they watch them bicker over nothing…

wndrwrthg is correct; substitute “skydiving” for “love” to get the point.

Wiley your strip is more than simply a cartoon because it usually stimulates dialogue. Some people take things much to personally and find offense in everything, but I think a cartoon is very well crafted when the reader can both laugh and be made to ponder the subject as well.

@Wiley, I think we all like to see something of ourselves or family in cartoons, which is one of the things that makes them fun. Yours is one I always read;-)

I found an easy way to keep harmony in my house yesterday. My lovely female accomplice was lounging on the couch when I got home from work. I walked over to her and reached as if to hug her, and as she reached back, I pulled her up into my arms and made it a real hug, and said “I can still pick you up. The doc only says I can’t lift heavy things.” Dinner last night was a really nice dish of baked zitis with fresh italian sausage, just the way I like it with plenty of leftovers for today’s lunch :-)

In all technicality I think it’s the women who have successfully avoided Bob!

Ahh–if it’s a fraud promulgated by religion, why does every culture and state have laws regulating marriage? Why can Justices of the Peace and other civil officials witness marriages?

No, a legal document does not make a relationship, but legal documents can safeguard relationships–have you ever signed a contract, or a bill of sale, or bought or sold a car, or a house? Have you taken out a loan of any kind, or a credit card? Have you made a purchase–the receipt is a legal document to show what you bought, and safeguard the interests of the parties.

Which is a reason so many marriages fail–if we expect the legal document or the ritual to supply for the relationship that should be there first, that should have been building from their first date and even more seriously from their engagement.

The public commitment of the couple in a marriage is an important, even nearly essential, part of the marriage. It’s so that the public knows who is married, and who is not. And, given that this is a serious, life-altering commitment, why not have rituals to help point to its solemn nature and its importance?

We have rituals for birthdays and for Thanksgiving, for graduating from schools and training programs. Which of them is more important than marriage?

Those who have, can. Those who haven’t, give advice on how it’s supposed to be done…

Does that mean Bob has a bachelors degree in bacheloring?
