Luke 4:20 says “And He closed the book, gave it back to the attendant and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed on Him.” Which makes no sense in the context of the comic or your reply. How can you poke fun at something you don’t know or understand?

The only way the meek will inherit the Earth is if the top 1% die without leaving wills.

BTW, I love the way the GOP is playing musical front-runners. By the time the primaries begin, they may not have any candidates left.

(biblical) Mat 13:12 “For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.” I’m just saying… it’s in there! I’m sure the 1% would love to quote this one… no wonder the right wing conservatives are so religious! That should kick up the anthill, don’t ’cha think?

In the 80s (when most of this Moral Majority/Religious Right crapola started), Frank Zappa wrote a song called “The Meek Shall Inherit Nothing” and several others that capture the M.O. we are seing in full bloom these days. About 30 years old and truer than ever. I miss you, Frank:

“Biblical” is simply the rich (rabbis) and powerful (rabbis) shall take the best of everything the poor have, and anything that they can assign a fine to is just a sin, and any serious offense(like disobeying your parents) is punishable by death. The taxes collected will be used to fund armies to stomp on any of your “enemies”, and take their land and resources, while the wealthy will pay less as the poor build their castles.(old and new testaments). So, “Reaganomics” IS “biblical”.

Not so much the Taliban, I think, as the Mayflower Pilgrims (and their descendants): God loves thrift and industry and hard bargaining, and while it is good to offer charity nobody with any self-respect would dream of receiving it. Poverty is a moral failing.

A particular irony, rarely mentioned, is that in the one place the Bible clearly talks about governmental budget questions, Genesis 41, God (via Joseph) commands a surplus in prosperous years and a deficit in poor years. Almost the opposite of the Republican Party position: W created a sizable deficit during the real estate bubble; now, in a downturn, they call for spending cuts.

(realistic) Congress is mired in mediocrity, outside influence, and partisan politics. The “we”- i.e.,the majority- is no longer being represented. Nearly a third of the population is at or near poverty level, the country is smothered in foreign debt, and all they can think of is “no tax increases, period; just slash some programs like Social Security and Medicare”. How about slashing a few of the billions of dollars we give to foreign countries who hate us in foreign aid instead? How about stopping playing World Cop and letting the UN do its job, and bringing our boys and girls home? Companies are cutting health care across the board for employees to try to stay competitive, and making sweeping changes to pension programs fore lifelong employees; why is Congress getting a free ride after only 5 years in office? Oh, right; because only congress can change how congress is paid. One of the laws Congress passed. Wake up. people, and smell the fecal matter! We’ve been had!
