Joe: There's one glitch with having Oprah as queen of the United States. Bob: What? She'd be perfect! Joe: Well, that's just it... there's only one Oprah, and she's not going to live forever. Bob: Blasphemy! Oprah is immortal!! Joe: Well, ok... in reruns maybe...

Wow, that’s the first time Bob ever showed any emotion..If Oprah is immortal, does that mean we can’t see her reflection in the mirror?

That seems to be the biggest benefit of a monarchy: no campaign seasons.

I, for one, will be willing to drive a stake through her heart to test if she is.

Patting myself on the back and all that; I brought this up two days ago. And, who would be the Royal stud muffin?

Immortal in reruns – exactly! It’s incredible to see movies and TV shows I watched as a kid. I know it’s just a mix of pixel information transmitted through the air, but most of those “old” people on the screen are younger than me now. Dick Van Dyke still has dark hair. Gracie Allen and Ethel Mertz look good. The Three Stooges are in better shape. All the leggy showgirls up there could be at least my daughters! .It’s as if reality is captured, frozen, repeatable, like something out of “The Purple Rose of Cairo,” or “The Picture of Dorian Gray.” Watch out when human personalities can be copied, stored, and then brought back! When off-line they can be enhanced and re-issued. All the rich people and monomaniacal rulers will make themselves virtually immortal through some advanced form of Blue-Ray.

Are second terms are reruns?

Every man elected President of the United States is a descendant of King Edward I of England, so we vote for our monarchs, and they reign 4 or 8 years, then we vote for the next one.

“Democracy is the worst form of government, except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time.” – Winston Churchill“A proposition, that the city be governed by a choice of respectable members of the community who would promise not to give themselves airs or betray the public trust at every turn, was instantly the subject of music-hall jokes all over the city.” – Terry Pratchett, “Unseen Academicals”

look at daytime tv, there is a power vacuum to replace oprah.

OK Wally, fantasy goes just so far……Oprah is human, sorry…

Althought I know who Oompah Wimpey is, I’ve never seeen any of her shows and I’ve no need to. Chat shows are the worst form of entertainment in my opinion. I’m sure many will disagree.

I once saw an interview with a man who worked in wildlife conservation…specifically tigers, I if I remember correctly. He said he had the quickest success in countries run by dictators…if he convinced the dictator that preserving tigers was important, it got done.
I think the main problem with our representatives right now is that 90% of them want to be dictators and have their way. Of course, for them, constant conflict is the best way to keep those campaign coffers overflowing, so they have zero incentive to resolve anything.

Well, she has no heir as of yet… and the way that Stedman is going, she may never get one from him. :-s

We could do as the Incas did: when a monarch died, and the body was mummified, they still continued to reign (if not rule). One monarch would last a long time.

Thye have a Queen in England who gets paid by taxpayers but does not do anything. We need this in USA?

Well Oprah supported Obama even though he reflected the policies of the democratic congress that began to dismantle the economy two years before Obama took office.
So Oprah is a dreadful choice.

That problem of the King’s son could possibly be fixed by having him live among the people instead of spoiling him.

Blast! Oprah doesn’t even have heir (which is the same reason that makes me love her so much!)

There seems to be a serious new interest in the concept, probably because of research into more complex information storage techniques. .A question I addressed on another site: Would a person whose thoughts were transferred to a mechanical body still function in a human way?.Citing all the science fiction I’ve read over the years, I ventured that a human separated from human physicality with its inherent hormones and emotions would no longer think in a human way, and that attempts along that line would result, at best, in a branching off of another species — one that would explore the Universe and mostly leave us behind. .Not an original insight, I know, but I think the technique will soon be attempted in some way with robots. Basically, I think digital techniques can’t yet compete with the holographic and chemical methods our brain is said to use..The Blue-Ray thing I mentioned was just an off-hand remark, “a mere bagatelle.”

OOOO kay……now we see the dark side of Danae’s lovely family….Gran’ma can have major hot flashes when ever she wills it to happen and she is far beyond child bearing years….and Uncle Bob is clearly over the edge bonkers….OOOO I feel so sorry for what Danae has to deal with

Some days I come in to work and I warn everybody, “I’m really full of it today,” and they know what to expect — fact mixed with fancy, bad puns, and mock emails. I am officially The Fount of Useless Knowledge. .As paraphrased from “Network,” “Everything I know I learned from Bugs Bunny.” Judging from a lot of people on these sites (most are more talented, twisted punsters than I), I’m not the only one. Vive la BS!
