Danae: Gah! Still no stupid internet service!! Joe: Well, if it's any consolation, Danae, we're all in the same boat. Danae: Nope, not workin'. Got any other folksy homilies for this epic crisis? Joe: Hmm...how about, deal with it? Kate: Oh, I love the classics!

Yeah, I’m with Danae on that one. “All in the same boat” is no consolation whatsoever when my internet goes out. And neither is “Deal with it.”

Those who remember being able to think without being connected will never fully understand the feeling of having the internet go down…..but I am learning.

Gotta love those cable repair guys. I’m sure they’ll be there any day now.

We recently switched from wireless to cable/wired with ourISP. I was terminally fed up with wasting more time trying toconnect with the net than I spent doing any work or play.Add the lousy streaming of youtube, start, stop, start, stop, start, STOP (“an error has occurred”). The service has improved about ten thousand million percent. I don’t suppose this is possible with notebooks, smartphones andsuchlike impedimenta that HAVE to be wireless, but it wrought marvels with the PC!

Danae, would you nicely, nicely please sit down, you’re rocking the boat! (Speaking of classics – Stubby Kaye. Song starts about 2:30 min. in.)

Love it – the newspapers are the classics now. Hate it – it dates me.

Re: “epic crisis”Mr. Miller,I sincerely hope that you have a toon in the pipeline that unleashes your wit on the overuse of the adjective “epic”. It doesn’t have to include bears, but I can see how Anoesis might play a role.

Those of you who live in real cities take your internet access for granted. In this small town where I live, we are constantly experiencing mysterious and unexplained outages and slow-downs which Century Link is incapable of explaining. All we get is, “We’re aware of an outage in your area.”

I was going to make a comment, but my internet is out.

The times I’ve gone to work without my cell phone, and felt vaguely uncomfortable without it make me laugh at myself. I spent fifty years without a cell phone, and everything was fine.

I think Bob or Doug would say tough booger nuggets, or something to that effect.

About a year ago, my internet service was out for three days. Took forever to get caught up on my comic strips. Wow, talk about your first world problems.

During one of the big storms year before last when I lost power for a week, I was sitting at the table with an oil lamp reading my Kindle… felt like Abe Lincoln by the fireplace!

The more pertinent question would be are the sharks circling the life raft the cable company or lawyers? When does Alfred Hitchcock make his appearance?

What good is speed if there’s no connection?

That is a classic. So the ‘Net goes down, big deal. Go read a book, watch a movie on VHS (yes, I’m that old) or DVD. Go outside!

Well, there is another boat-related folksy homily that involves a certain aptly-named creek, a canoe, and a missing paddle.

Some Adults and Old People curse the internet because they can no longer LIE/Manipulate Kids…
Granted some of the info out there may Untrue/Fabricated/Exaggerated but there are a few exceptional children that are knowledgeable and patient enough to Sieve/Filter through all the info… and at least there are people willing and honest enough to Tell/Share the REAL Truth…
Anyway for some of us, it’s the only means to the outside world for knowledge, and let’s face it… not all of us have the Time/Money to travel or do stuff and it inexpensively saves people whole tons of trouble.

I refuse to get rid of my landline as well. We had a tornado hit us a few years back. We were told originally that we could stay while they repaired the roof, but the insurance adjuster said we had to leave. Anyway we were in the house (minus part of our roof) for a week after the storm. Did you know it rains after a tornado? That caused more damage than the tornado itself did. We were lucky though….Anyway during the week we were here 5 of those days we had no electricity. The city got it back on on the 4th day, but the main wire that runs through our house was holding up most of the roof, so my husband was concerned about turning on our power. (Right after the storm he’d gone around turning off gas, electric, etc. I started pulling the roofing off the wire. It looked fine to me, so we said here goes nothing. During all this we only lost the land line once! and that was on the 6th day for an hour because of the other things being fixed had hit the line or something. You have to make sure it is a real phone! Not a cordless. Guess what, cordless use electricity to power their bases. So my stubbornness to get rid of my old phone saved us in a way. Sorry for the long post. You all know by now that I rarely post, but when I do I never shut up.

Oh yeah, I was going to comment on squirrels. We lost all of the trees in the backyard, 4 maple and 1 crabapple. I miss watching the little buggers while doing dishes. They still hang out in the front yard where a maple that everyone wanted to cut down about 12 years because it looked sick, and wasn’t even touched by the tornado even though it twisted my husband truck frame a bit. My car got one dent and some scratches. It was parked by the maple. I really do brake for them too. I call them “suicidal squirrels”. Like you, I’ve seen them wait for me…lol

It is of little comfort to me that it is not my end of the boat that is sinking.

I have a major complaint.
Google Translate is doing nothing for me with all this technobabble. ...Maybe I should just shove a fish in my ear (I miss that site…)
She Mc about 10 years ago
Well, all this tech-talk makes me feel quite inadequate! I only know when everything is working, we are happy! But for people who have only a tablet computer, the possibilities are much less than a pc or laptop, some ‘stuff’ (very technical term) wont work on the damn tablet!

Reboot the modem or router. At least an 80% chance of success if the problem is on your end of the connection.
